After bowling for several years as a co-ed team, Salmen is competing with separate boys and girls teams for the first time in 2019.

The Spartan girls claimed their first-ever victory Thursday afternoon at Bowling USA in Slidell, defeating Kenner Discovery 18-9.

Emily Floyd led Salmen (1-0) with a 499 series, including a 190 opening game.

Madison Lemoine paced Kenner Discovery (1-1) with a 389 set.

Archbishop Chapelle wins by forfeit: At AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner, the Chipmunks moved to 2-0 on the year with a forfeit victory over Crescent City Christian.

Unlike most other sports, teams still compete in bowling in a forfeited match.

Jessica Ladd rolled a career-best 656 series, including games of 256 and 2224, to pace Chapelle. Sarah Rubi had a 557 set.

Chapelle hosts St. Scholastica in a key non-district matchup Tuesday at AMF.
