Girls Basketball Playoffs: Northshore, Amite, Hannan advance to regionals with wins

In Division I, No. 11 Northshore whipped No. 22 Hahnville 67-44 in Slidell.

After a close first quarter, Northshore separated itself from the Tigers to win easily.

Sophomore Soniyah Reed led the Panthers with 19 points while Tiarra Tillison had 11 points. Raven Porter added 10 points. Danae Lorio topped Hahnville (20-13) with 12 points while Paceley Williams had 10 points.

Northshore (26-8) advances to the regional round to take on the winner of tonight’s game pitting No. 27 Zachary at No. 6 Denham Springs, set for 6 pm. It was the second win for Hahnville over Northshore. The Panthers beat the Tigers in a much closer contest, 58-53 on Dec. 29.

In Class 2A, No. 7 Amite walloped No. 26 Franklin 92-39. The Warriors (23-6) advance to face the winner of tonight’s game between No. 23 Springfield, which plays at No. 10 M.L. King Charter at 10 am. Franklin ends its season 16-15.

In Division II, No. 17 Archbishop Hannan fought off No. 16 St. Scholastica 47-41.

In a closely contested game, Hannan led 13-11 after one quarter before the Doves took a 23-18 lead by halftime. The second half saw both teams go back and forth before the Hawks rallied to take the victory.

Amelia Stardridge and Mallory Kramer each had 14 points to pace Hannan. Katherine Chassin carried SSA (12-21) with 24 points.

The Hawks (10-17) advance to play at No. 1 Lee Magnet on Monday.

Also in Division II, No. 11 St. Michael trounced No. 22 Sacred Heart of New Orleans 57-7. The Warriors (16-14) advance to the regional round to play in Shreveport at sixth-seeded Loyola Prep Monday at 6 pm. The Cardinals end their season 3-25.

Virtually all other first-round playoff games are set for this evening around the state.
