Justin McMillan’s new college home is in the Crescent City.

McMillan said Friday morning he will transfer from LSU to Tulane, confirming reports that surfaced earlier this week. Tulane confirmed the move in a release Saturday afternoon (see below).

As a graduate transfer, McMillan is eligible immediately and has two years of eligibility remaining.

“I’ll be going to finish off my career and my master’s (degree) program (at Tulane),” McMillan said Friday morning on the “Off the Bench” show on ESPN 104.5 in Baton Rouge. “Trying to pick the right school that fit … there were a lot of great schools that contacted me. Tulane’s coaching staff, they showed me how it feels to be loved.

“Talking with Coach Fritz … we had a good conversation, talking about the offense and the direction Tulane is going. I like the direction Tulane is going and I’m happy to be there with them.”

McMillan had nothing bad to say about his experience in Baton Rouge.

“My time at LSU was great,” McMillan said. “I love that school. The connections I made there, you can’t re-do that anywhere else. I’m ready to see what the next chapter is as far as football and the master’s program.”

McMillan has two years of eligibility remaining.

Senior Jonathan Banks is entrenched as the starter at Tulane, which opens Thursday at home against Wake Forest. But the battle for the No. 2 spot has been wide open, and McMillan – once he gets acclimated to Tulane’s system – would appear to be the favorite to move into that spot.

TULANE RELEASE:

The Tulane University football team announced today the addition of former LSU quarterback Justin McMillan to its roster as a graduate transfer.

McMillan, who graduated from LSU earlier this month, comes to Tulane following three seasons on the Tigers roster. The Cedar Hill, Texas product saw limited action during his three years in Baton Rouge but entered fall camp as a strong candidate to take over the team’s starter in 2018.

McMillian arrived at LSU after a successful high school career at Cedar Hill High School where he led the team to consecutive state titles in 2013 and 2014.

As a dual-threat quarterback, he finished his senior season with 2,854 yards 37 touchdowns, while rushing for 656 yards and six scores as he earned a three-star rating by 247Sports, Scout and ESPN.

The Green Wave open the 2018 season on Thursday, August 30 at home against Wake Forest. The game will broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network.
