Grayson played for Tulane from 2009-13 and was a Green Wave graduate assistant

NEW ORLEANS – Returning to her alma mater, Olivia Grayson has joined the Tulane women’s basketball staff as its new director of student-athlete development and video, Coach Lisa Stockton announced on Friday.

In this new role, Grayson will be responsible for coordinating daily practices and team activities, community outreach, working with marketing, directing the team’s mentor program, and coordinating video.

“I’m really excited to be back home and to be able to learn and grow under Coach Stockton,” Grayson said. “She was so influential to me as a player and for my graduate assistantship. It’s a blessing to be able to continue to soak in the knowledge of Coach Stockton and the rest of the coaching staff. They’re all my family.

Grayson, a native of Metairie, played for the Green Wave from 2009-13 and remains eighth all-time in Tulane history with 1,442 points. She is also fourth all-time in assists (499), fifth in steals (249), 10th all-time in field goals made (487), fifth in field goals attempted (1,349) and seventh in rebounding (750). She holds the program record for games played at 134.

“New Orleans is a city that lives inside of you,” Grayson said. “You leave, and you always find your way back to it. There’s no other place like it. The city has its own heartbeat, and I’m excited to share that with our recruits and be back in this environment.”

Most recently, Grayson served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Northwestern State women’s basketball in Natchitoches, Louisiana. With the Demons, she was responsible for recruiting, scouting, coordinating camps, team video exchange, organizing team travel, ordering inventory and supervising graduate students in addition to her coaching duties.

Prior to her time at Northwestern State, Grayson was Tulane’s graduate assistant and video coordinator from 2013-2016. While earning her master’s degree in social work, Grayson broke down game film, assisted coaches on court during practice, organized on-campus recruiting, managed social media and assisted with all aspects of team travel. She also designed and organized the team playbook, recruited practice players and managers and was the assistant camp coordinator.

As a player for the Green Wave, Grayson was First Team All-Conference USA in 2012 and Second Team All-CUSA in 2013. In her first year at Tulane, the conference recognized her on its All-Freshman Team. She was the MVP of the 2011 Tulane Classic and made the All-Tournament team in 2010 and 2011.

Olivia Grayson (#21)“We are so excited to welcome Oliva home,” Stockton said. “As an alum, she has such a passion for Tulane basketball. She will be an excellent ambassador in the community and an outstanding role model for our current players. Olivia’s college coaching experience will help bring fresh ideas and energy to her new role.”

She attended the WBCA’s “So You Want to be a Coach?” program in 2013, earned All-Louisiana honors in 2012 and 2013 and was the 2010 Female Amateur Athlete of the Year as awarded by the Allstate Sugar Bowl and Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame.

Fans can get their chance to see Grayson back at Fogelman in Devlin starting on October 30 as the team hosts Loyola-New Orleans in an exhibition. The regular season begins on November 8 against Texas Southern.
