Crescent City Christian gets top seed, St. Aug nets No. 2 seed in boys playoffs

Only one area team in 12 classifications has earned a top seed while just one area team has netted a second seed for the upcoming LHSAA boys basketball playoffs with the pairings announced Monday.

In 5A, Natchitoches Central (27-3) is the top seed and will host No. 32 Sam Houston. Ouachita Parish (23-5) is No. 2 and will entertain No. 31 Acadiana.

New Iberia (26-5) is No. 3 and the Yellow Jackets host No. 30 Higgins (14-10). District 8-5A champion Bonnabel (23-6) is seeded fourth and the Bruins await No. 29 Slidell (16-16). Bonnabel won 56-48 at Slidell on Dec. 10.

No. 7 Ponchatoula (24-8) is a dangerous team as the District 6-5A champion and will host No. 26 Grace King (22-11).

No. 10 Hahnville (23-9) has a tough matchup in a rematch with District 7-5A rival and No. 23 Thibodaux (16-13), the defending 5A state champion. The Tigers won both regular season games with the Tigers winning 62-60 at Thibodaux and 83-58 at home.

East Jefferson (19-7) just missed a home game and will have to travel to talented No. 16 H.L. Bourgeois.

Mandeville (22-12) is the 22nd seed and the Skippers will make a long trip to No. 11 Captain Shreve.

Northshore and Chalmette just missed the playoffs.

In 4A, traditional power and 8-time state champion Peabody (30-3) is the top seed. The Warhorses await No. 32 South Lafourche. The last state title for Peabody was in 2017.

Defending state champion Breaux Bridge (24-8) earned the second seed and will entertain No. 31 Northwood.

Huntington (27-7) is No. 3 and hosts No. 30 LaGrange while Assumption (27-7) gets the No. 4 seed and the Mustangs welcome No. 29 Cecilia.

Carver (22-8) is a very dangerous sixth seed, but will have to make a playoff run on the road as a result of LHSAA sanctions handed down last year. The Rams open at No. 27 North Vermilion.

Always tough Salmen (19-6) sets the seventh seed a home game with No. 26 Northside.

In a rematch of a football semifinal game, No. 10 Lakeshore (23-4) looks for revenge against No. 23 Warren Easton (19-12).

McMain (21-11) is No. 9 and the Mustangs host No. 24 Westgate.

No. 13 Helen Cox (25-8) gets a home game against No. 20 Bastrop.

No. 22 Karr (15-17) heads north to face No. 11 Booker T. Washington of Shreveport.

Landry-Walker (14-18) is a dangerous 28th seed and travels to No. 5 Woodlawn of Shreveport. The Chargin’ Bucs have won three state championships since 2014, most recently in 2017, and reached the state championship game in 2018.

Bossier (30-3), a state runner-up a year ago, is the top seed in 3A and will host No. 32 Grant. Bossier has won three state championships, most recently in 2016.

Wossman (29-3) is No. 2 and will entertain No. 31 Abbeville.

Four-time defending state champion and six-time state champ Madison Prep (24-6) is the third seed and will play host to No. 30 Jennings. No 4 Brusly (25-5) has a home game against No. 29 Jewel Sumner (12-12).

Booker T. Washington of New Orleans (25-9) has a real shot as the fifth seed and the Lions await No. 28 Union Parish.

No. 11 Sophie B. Wright (19-10) will host No. 22 Donaldsonville (15-16).

No. 21 Loranger (21-11) makes a trip to No. 12 Ville Platte while No. 7 Lutcher (21-6) has a home date with No. 26 Sterlington.

In 2A, Port Allen (22-6) is the top seed and will entertain No. 32 Delcambre.

Two-time defending state champion Rayville (23-5) is seeded second and will play host to No. 31 St. Helena (10-17).

Red River (19-7) is No. 3 and will host No. 30 Kentwood (9-13) while Lakeview (21-9) is seeded fourth and will host No. 29 Morris Jeff Community (12-14).

Doyle (23-7) is No. 7 and will entertain No. 26 South Plaquemines (12-15).

Independence (14-12) just missed a home game at No. 17 and will travel to No. 16 West St. Mary.

No. 24 Amite (17-16) travels to No. 9 Vinton, No. 27 Varnado (13-15) is at No. 6 Madison while No. 28 French Settlement (16-16) is at No. 5 Franklin.

In 1A, defending state champion North Central (23-7) gets the top seed and a bye while Grand Lake (29-1) is the second seed with a bye. Lincoln Prep (19-6) is the third seed and also gets a bye.

Tensas (24-9) is No. 4 and will host No. 29 Magnolia School of Excellence.

West St. John (12-18) is No. 12 and plays host to No. 21 Delta Charter.

Defending state champion Simsboro (30-4) is the top seed in Class B and has a bye, as does No. 2 Doyline (29-2). No. 3 Hathaway (30-5) will play host to winless No. 30 Maurepas (0-30). No. 4 Zwolle (24-9) awaits No. 29 Converse.

No. 15 Mount Hermon (22-15) entertains No. 18 Choudrant.

No. 16 Holden (16-15) gets a home matchup with No. 17 Florien Friday at 6 p.m.

In Class C, Summerfield (16-10) is seeded first and has a bye, along with No. Hicks (31-8), No. 3 Hornbeck (27-11) and No. 4 Pleasant Hill (25-9).

Phoenix (15-14) is No. 5 with a bye while defending state champion Simpson (20-14) also has a bye.

Grand Isle (17-10) is No. 11 and has a bye.

In Division I, four-time defending state champion Scotlandville (31-3) is No. 1 and the Hornets will have a bye before facing the winner of District 9-5A rivals in No. 9 Jesuit (13-14) at No. 8 Archbishop Shaw (16-13). The Blue Jays won both Catholic League matchups with the Eagles by scores of 51-48 and 56-51. Scotlandville has won state titles in six of the last seven seasons.

St. Augustine (29-1) is the second seed and the Purple Knights get a bye before hosting the winner of No. 10 John Curtis Christian (9-19) and No. 7 McKinley.

Catholic of Baton Rouge is the third seed and the Bears get a bye before hosting the winner of No. 11 Archbishop Rummel (12-15) at No. 6 St. Paul’s (21-9).

Brother Martin (28-4) is No. 4 and the Crusaders get a bye before hosting the winner of No. 5 Holy Cross (21-11) and No. 12 Byrd. Brother Martin split a pair of district games with the Tigers.

In Division II, two-time defending state champion St. Thomas More (22-4) is the top seed and the Cougars host No. 16 Vandebilt Catholic. University High (23-6) is No. 2 and the Cubs entertain No. 15 Ben Franklin (11-12).

Dangerous De La Salle (26-5), who lost in overtime to St. Thomas More in the title game a year ago, is the third seed and the Cavaliers await No. 14 David Thibodaux. No. 4 Lee Magnet (22-9) plays host to No. 13 Lusher Charter (8-20).

No. 9 Thomas Jefferson (19-11) travels to No. 8 St. Michael and No. 11 Archbishop Hannan (13-16) is at No. 6 E.D. White Catholic.

Dunham (19-10) gets the top seed in Division III and the Tigers, who lost in the title game a year ago after winning state in 2018, get a bye.

Lafayette Christian (23-9), who won the Division IV state title a year ago before moving up this season, is the second seed with a bye. The Knights will face the winner of No. 7 St. Charles Catholic (23-11) and No. 10 Ascension Episcopal.

Holy Savior Menard (23-10) is seeded fourth and plays host to No. 13 Cristo Rey.

No. 5 Newman (21-8) is very good and the Greenies will host No. 12 Houma Christian.

No. 6 Northlake Christian (19-12) entertains District 10-2A rival and No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (7-16). The Wolverines swept both district games by scores of 73-41 and 54-49.

Crescent City Christian (19-11) earned the top seed in Division IV. The Pioneers, who won a state title in 2017 and have reached the championship game in each of the last two years in Division V, have moved up in class and will host No. 16 Westminster Christian.

Hamilton Christian (24-7) is seeded second and entertains. No. 15 St. John and Opelousas Catholic (22-7) is No. 3 and will host No. 14 St. Edmund.

St. Mary’s (23-5) is No. 4 and No. 13 St. Martin’s Episcopal (16-10) will make the trip to Natchitoches.

Defending Division III state champion and No. 7 Country Day (12-14) dropped down in class and is playing very well entering the playoffs. The Cajuns, who have won seven state titles, will host No. 10 Ascension Catholic.

Two-time defending state champion Jehovah-Jireh (25-18) is the No. 1 seed in Division V and will have a bye, as will second seed Runnels (16-23), No. 3 Family Christian (25-17) and No. 4 Episcopal of Acadiana (17-14).

Christ Episcopal (11-15) earned the seventh seed and the Wildcats entertain No. 10 University Academy.
