Boys Basketball: East St. John, Slidell, Lakeshore among Non-Select playoff winners Friday

Several area teams were in action in the LHSAA boys prep basketball opening round of the playoffs Friday night.

In a thriller in Bossier City, No. 17 East St. John outlasted No. 16 Airline in overtime in Non-Select Division I action.

In a close game throughout, the Vikings had a chance to win it at the buzzer but missed a reverse layup and regulation ended tied 60-60.

The Wildcats outscored Airline 11-8 in the overtime period to win it.

Tied at 68 in overtime, the Wildcats hit key free throws down the stretch.

Airline led 10-8 after one quarter but East St. John took a 30-23 halftime lead and led 47-41 heading to the final quarter.

Machai Johnson led East St. John with 22 points, Jahyi Jones scored 17 points and Lorenzo Zeno had nine points.

Kevin White Jr. had 19 points for the Vikings, Trevon Jackson had 16 points, George Tillman scored 13 points and Bryson Broom had 11 points.

East St. John (21-12) advances to play at top seeded Zachary in the regional round.

Also in Non-Select Division I, No. 7 Slidell whipped No. 26 Ouachita Parish 77-50 at home.

It was close for a half as the Tigers took a 15-13 lead after one quarter and a 30-25 lead by halftime. Slidell dominated the second half, outscoring the Lions 47-25, including 25-13 in the third quarter to take a 55-38 lead into the final quarter.

In Non-Select Division II, No. 10 Lakeshore defeated No. 23 Lutcher 64-55 at home.

Lakeshore led 17-9 after one quarter and 33-18 at halftime. It was 52-40 heading to the fourth quarter.

Caiden Bickham stole the show, recording a triple-double with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. Owen Guth added 16 points and Kaden Vial scored 11 points.

Chase Pittman topped Lutcher (14-17) with 15 points while Marcus Gibson scored 14 points.

Lakeshore (20-9) will travel to No. 7 Beau Chene in the regional round. Beau Chene beat No. 26 Livonia 62-52.

Senior Jaden Hookfin was superb, scoring 28 points, making 10-of-14 field goal attempts. Hookfin had eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Mike Parlow scored 15 points with five rebounds and four assists and Jerome Landor scored 11 points and had five assists.

Slidell (26-8) advances to take on No. 10 Central at home in the regional round Tuesday at 7 p.m. Central handled No. 23 Belle Chasse 68-32.
