Bonnabel, St. Paul’s, De La Salle, JFK, Thomas Jefferson, PJP, Riverside advance in Select boys hoops playoffs

Several area teams advanced in the opening round of the LHSAA Select boys basketball playoffs Friday.

In Select Division I, No. 17 Bonnabel made the long trip to No. 16 Huntington and won 70-58.

Bonnabel took a 12-10 lead after one quarter and led 34-25 at halftime. The Bruins took a 50-45 lead into the fourth quarter.

Jeremiah Lewis stole the show, pumping in 31 points for the Bruins.

Antonio Dixon scored 14 points for the Raiders.

Bonnabel (23-10) advances to travel to No. 1 seed St. Thomas More in the regional round.

No. 11 Brother Martin handled No. 22 Woodlawn of Baton Rouge 61-42.

The Crusaders (21-12) travel to No. 6 Southwood in the regional round.

In Select Division II, No. 19 De La Salle went to No. 14 Bunkie 39-34.

The Cavaliers took an 11-10 lead after one quarter and let 19-13 at halftime. The game was tied 28-28 heading to the fourth quarter.

Manny Young led the Cavaliers with 11 points while Levon Gipson and Armand Woods each had nine points.

Kyle Johnson and Dexter Compton each scored eight points for Bunkie.

De La Salle (15-15) advances to play at No. 3 Carver, a two-time defending state champion.

In Select Division III, No. 9 Country Day whipped No. 24 Beekman Charter 60-27.

Senior Philip Antis led the Cajuns with 11 points while James Rogers and Brennan White each scored nine points.

Country Day (17-12) advance to play at No. 8 Sophie B. Wright Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Warriors beat the Cajuns 51-46 on Dec. 21 in the Country Day Tournament.

Also in Select Division III, No. 15 Pope John Paul II defeated No. 18 M.L. King Charter 62-46 at home.

Andrew Hoff starred, pumping in 29 points for the Jaguars while Nathan Babin added 14 points. Blake Nichols finished with 10 points.

Christian Doyl led M.L. King Charter (12-15) with 20 points while Cahei Coleman had 14 points.

Pope John Paul II (23-9) advances to the regional round at No.2 Dunham Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
