Area Prep Basketball Report for Thursday, Dec. 10

After guiding his Riverside Rebels to the state quarterfinals in Division IV football, Kevin Dizer is now concentrating on coaching his other team, the Riverside girls basketball squad and doing an equally good job.

Riverside continued to impress in the early season, downing Ascension Catholic 64-42 at home Wednesday.

The Rebels jumped out to a big 20-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back. It was 36-16 by halftime and 51-29 after three quarters.

Eighth-grader Imani Daniel has a brilliant future. She led Riverside with 17 points while senior Chloe Simon had 12 points.

Dizer is currently in quarantine after being exposed to contact tracing. He is fine but playing it safe before rejoining his squad.

“We still have a really young team with several eighth to tenth graders,” Dizer said. “We need to win the games we can win and learn against veteran teams. We took care of business from start to finish in this one. We certainly feel very good about our future.”

Riverside (4-1) will travel to Parkview Baptist today at 6 p.m.

St. Scholastica won at McGehee 38-30.

Junior Madi Burns, senior Ashtyn Ledoux and freshman Sydney Simonton each scored nine points to lead St. Scholastica. Ledoux added five steals and three assists and Burns had five steals and three rebounds.

The Doves (2-3) will host Newman Friday at 5 p.m. while the Hawks fell to 1-1.
