Basketball: Mandeville girls, boys victorious Thursday

Area Prep Basketball Report for Friday, Feb. 2

The Mandeville girls continued their outstanding season with a 63-46 victory over Salmen at Mandeville. It was the 11th straight win for the Lady Skippers.

Mandeville led 15-7 after one quarter and 31-15 by halftime. It was 46-29 heading to the fourth quarter.

Alanna Benoit scored 25 points, sinking 11-of-21 field goal attempts and added seven rebounds with three assists. Saleigh Berry scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Mandeville (24-5) plays at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.

Salmen (12-15) returns to District 8-4 action tonight at home against Pearl River at 6 p.m.

In boys action, Mandeville edged St. Paul’s 45-43 at St. Paul’s.

The Wolved led 14-10 after one quarter before the Skippers took a 22-17 halftime lead at halftime. Mandeville led 34-31 heading to the fourth quarter.

Jack Marcello led Mandeville with 10 points, Chauncey Aubert had nine points and Adam Lockley and Charles Stipe each added eight points.

Michael Sarver topped St. Paul’s with 21 points and reached the 1,000 point plateau for his career.

Mandeville (17-12, 1-4) defeated the Wolves for the second time. The Skippers beat the Wolves 60-55 at home on Jan. 11. The Skippers host Hammond Tuesday in district play.

St. Paul’s (21-9, 3-2) faces a tough test Tuesday at Ponchatoula.
