Area Prep Basketball Report for Friday, Jan. 17

Make it four in a row for the John Ehret girls.

The Lady Patriots fought off Belle Chasse 59-55 at home Thursday evening.

Freshman Keaera Holmes has a great future but she was great in the present last night.

Holmes scored more than half of her team’s points, pumping in 29 points in a brilliant performance. Senior Crishay Tillman added 12 points and sophomore R’Kya Harris added eight points.

Ehret (12-6) won its fourth straight game and won for the seventh time in eight games. The Lady Patriots return to action Friday at 5 p.m., hosting Carver while the Cardinals (14-5) saw its four-game win streak come to an end. Belle Chasse travels to Bonnabel next Tuesday at 5 p.m.

In boys action at Newman, Tulane football signee Justin Ibieta scored 27 points, including the game-winning shot at the buzzer, to life Country Day to a thrilling 57-55 victory at Newman.

Xane Hunter added 17 points for the Greenies. Aden Nora hit a pair of key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for the Cajuns.

Javon Ruffin was outstanding for Newman with 26 points while Reagan Lapeyre added 16 points.

The win by Country Day avenged a 63-59 loss at home to the Greenies on Jan. 7.
