Soccer: Jesuit, Belle Chasse boys, Newman girls win on pitch

Area Prep Soccer Report for Friday, Jan. 17

Jesuit stayed hot, winning its fifth straight match with a solid 2-0 win over a good East Jefferson squad at John Ryan Stadium Thursday evening.

Connor Quaglino put Jesuit on top in the 33rd minute with a goal to lead 1-0 at halftime. Matthew Busenlener put the match away in the 55th minute with a second goal for the Blue Jays.

Jesuit (13-2-5) will host Archbishop Rummel Saturday at 1 p.m. in District 6-I play. The Warriors (5-6-2) will host Riverdale next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Joe Yenni Stadium in a District 8-II contest.

Belle Chasse went on the road and edged Higgins 3-2.

It was the Michael Rodriguez show. A junior, Rodriguez scored all three goals for the Cardinals and added an assist in a brilliant performance.

Belle Chasse (6-4-2) returns to action at home next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against McMain while Higgins (7-5) will host Landry-Walker next Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In girls action, Newman blanked McGehee 2-0 at Lupin Field in a District 8-IV contest.

Hannan Weil scored in the 19th minute to put the Greenies on top and Morgan LeBourgeois added an insurance goal in the final minute of the first half.

The Greenies (11-4) return to action Saturday on the Lakefront at Ben Franklin at 11 a.m. while the Hawks (8-3-1) travel to Covenant Christian Saturday at 11 a.m.
