Basketball: Holy Cross opens with impressive win over KIPP Renaissance
Area Boys Prep Basketball Report for Wednesday, Nov. 14
With a host of talented players with playoff experience returning, expectations for Holy Cross basketball are quite high for the 2018-19 season.
The Tigers opened their campaign in impressive fashion, cruising past KIPP Renaissance 84-42 at home Tuesday evening.
Holy Cross took a 21-15 lead after one quarter and expanded the lead to 39-24 by the half. They put the game away in the third quarter and were able to clear the bench late.
Tyler Beaver led the Tigers with 13 points, Khalil Thomas had 13 points and Myles Sanders finished with 11 points as the Tigers played virtually everyone.
Tigers coach Mister Kirkwood was pleased with the first look at his team this season.
“We have a senior-heavy group and they know what to do,” Kirkwood said. “It’s exciting to watch them. Our expectations are high. We expect very good things from our team. I think our experience last year of making the playoffs was educational. It was an eye-opening experience that has helped us and will help us.”
Holy Cross went 21-13 last season, reaching the Division I quarterfinals before falling to eventual state champion Scotlandville.
Holy Cross returns to action next Monday, hosting a Thanksgiving Tournament, beginning with a matchup against Archbishop Hannan at 7:30 p.m.
