Area Prep Basketball Report for Sunday, Nov. 29

Coming off of a state title last season in Division IV, Crescent City Christian has established itself as one of the top programs in Louisiana.

The Pios also won a state title in 2017 in Division V.

On Saturday, Crescent City downed Beau Chene 67-52 at home.

John Kelly led the way for the Pios with 22 points and six rebounds and Kurt LaBeaud had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jordan Moore contributed 10 points, Derek Burditt had seven points, seven assists and five rebounds, Hodiz Diaz finished with five points, five rebounds and seven assists and Marquez Jackson had three points and four rebounds for Crescent City.

Pios coach Shawn Dumas was pleased with his team’s effort.

“I think we did a really good job responding to adversity against Beau Chene, bouncing back from a loss,” Dumas said. “We are showing that we can do something special this year. We have a long way to go, but the love my guys have for each other is obvious. I know they are ready for the challenge. We will keep building brick by brick.”

The Pios lost 63-60 at Southern Lab on Friday.

Crescent City Christian (3-1) return to action Dec. 8 at home at 6:30 p.m. against Catholic of Baton Rouge. The Gators (0-1) will travel to Acadiana Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Having won a pair of state championships and having been to another state title game since 2014, Mount Carmel Academy is always a threat in basketball.

The Cubs are serving notice to Division I that they will be squarely in the mix again this season.
