In a showdown for first place in District 8-5A between unbeaten boys basketball teams, Bonnabel controlled play from start to finish in a convincing, impressive 76-47 victory at West Jefferson for its fifth straight win.

Rodney Munson led the Bruins (22-5, 4-0) with 28 points, Donte Mitchell had 19 points and Will Allen finished with 11 points.

Bonnabel returns to action in a showdown for a possible district championship Friday night at home against Landry-Walker while West Jefferson (20-8, 3-1) travels to Grace King Friday night at 6 pm

Don’t look now but Lusher is in first place in District 10-3A.

The Lions fought off traditional power De La Salle 64-61 at home Tuesday night to take sole possession of first place in the district.

The Cavaliers started well, taking a 17-10 lead after one quarter before the Lions rallied to tie the game 30-30 at halftime. Lusher took a 50-45 lead going to the final quarter and held off the Cavs for the big win. The victory was the first after 12 straight losses for Lusher to De La Salle and it avenged a 57-52 loss at De La Salle on Jan. 18.

Ian Kirsch and Cameron Williams each scored 19 points for the Lions (18-9, 5-1) while Corey Madison had 12 points. Jalen Ned topped De La Salle (16-9, 3-2) with 14 points while John Kelly had 13 points.

Lusher next faces a showdown at Donaldsonville Friday night at 7 pm while De La Salle will host St. James in district play. Donaldsonville is 3-2 in district play, tied with Lusher. The Lions beat the Tigers 73-57 at home on Jan. 22.
