Area Prep Baseball Report for Sunday, Feb. 27

It is the final year for Archbishop Shaw in the historic Catholic League, at least for the next two years.

The Eagle baseball team would like to make it a special season, much as its basketball team has.

Shaw remained unbeaten on the young season with a pair of victories Saturday, defeating Lakeshore 4-2 and St. Martin’s Episcopal 7-6 in the WGNO Classic.

In the win over the Titans, Cole Guidry pitched six innings, allowing two runs in the sixth inning after tossing five scoreless frames to get the win. Logan Muhleisen pitched the seventh inning to pick up the save.

Julyan Clarks and Leo Kerner each belted a solo home run while Guidry helped himself with an RBI single.

In the win over St. Martin’s Episcopal, Trey Parks picked up the win in relief of Toby Bourg. Kaden Robichaux came on to pitch two scoreless innings to get the save.

Shaw (4-0) has only given up 10 runs in four victories.

The Eagles will host De La Salle on Mar. 7.

A pair of good teams hooked up and produced a terrific pitcher’s dual in LaPlace.

In the end, St. Charles Catholic edged Destrehan 1-0.

The Comets won by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning, driven in by Brandon Kragle.

It was Kragle and Michael Hotard who combined on the shutout for the Comets, allowing just three hits while striking out 11 Wildcats.

John Carmichael pitched extremely well in taking the loss, allowing no earned runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

St. Charles Catholic also easily handled Ascension Christian 18-0 in a game shortened to 4 ½ innings by the mercy rule.

Britten Dean picked up the win and drove in a pair of runs as the Comets banged out 14 hits. Zack Vicknair had two hits and two RBI. Austin St. Pierre also drove in a pair of runs for St. Charles Catholic.

The Comets (3-1) return to action Monday at home against Live Oak at 3:30 p.m.
