Softball: John Curtis remains unbeaten, Chapelle downs Catholic

Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, Feb. 27

While its girls basketball team just won its sixth straight state title and its boys basketball team is in the state semifinals, the elite John Curtis Christian softball team is poised for a run at another state title.

On Saturday, John Curtis rolled over Iota 14-0 in the St. Thomas More Tournament.

Madison Laiche hurled the shutout. Shelby Vitrano was a perfect 4 for 4 with two doubles and two singles for the Lady Patriots. A seven-run third inning broke the game open.

Curtis (10-0) remained unbeaten and will play at Denham Springs Thursday.

Archbishop Chapelle rolled over Catholic of New Iberia 11-1 in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule.

The Chipmunks (5-1) banged out 13 hits, with Allie Domangue leading the way with a perfect 5 for 5 day with a pair of RBI. Emma Ruddy had a hit and two RBI while Marie Rohli had two hits and an RBI and Ava Landry had two hits and an RBI.

Kayla Giardina picked up the win, going the distance. Giardina scattered seven hits, walked two and struck out nine, using 88 pitches.
