Baseball: Rummel, John Curtis, St. Charles Catholic take wins Tuesday

Area Prep Baseball Report for Wednesday, March 29

Archbishop Rummel completed a two-game sweep of Holy Cross, handling the Tigers 7-1Tuesday night at Tiger Park.

Senior Brock Bullinger was simply outstanding, pitching a complete game four-hitter. Bullinger allowed just one run, walked just two and struck five, using just 96 pitches to get the job done. Bullinger helped his own cause with a double and two RBI.

Playing without star first baseman Rhett Centanni, the Raiders picked up the slack, pounding out 11 hits. Conner Perrot had two hits and an RBI, Louisiana Tech commit Gavin Nix had two hits and an RBI, Tulane commit Evan Burg and Lenny Cline each drove in a run and LSU commit Mikey Ryan had two hits for the Raiders.

Luca Saltaformaggio had a hit and drove in the lone run for the Tigers. Chris Sercovich started and took the loss for Holy Cross, going four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits.

Rummel (15-9, 4-2) has now won five straight games. The Raiders will open a two-game series against Karr Thursday at 4 p.m. against Karr at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Holy Cross (11-10-1, 3-3) will open a two-game series Thursday at home against John Curtis Christian.

John Curtis Christian completed a two-game sweep of St. Augustine, winning 8-5 at Mike Miley Stadium.

The Patriots scored three runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second to take a 4-0 lead. St. Augustine cut the deficit to 4-1 with a run in the top of the fourth but Curtis answered with three in the bottom of the frame to make it 7-1. Each team scored a run in the sixth before St. Augustine scored three in the seventh but it was not enough.

Brad Chaisson had two hits, including a home run and three RBI while Andrew Martinez had two hits, including a home run and drove in two runs for the Patriots.

Bryce Robinson had two hits and two RBI while Yerdin Castillo had two hits and an RBI for the Purple Knights.

John Curtis (12-6-1, 2-2) returns to district play Thursday at Tiger Park against Holy Cross.

St. Augustine (6-18, 1-5) opens a series against Catholic League leader Brother Martin Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

St. Charles Catholic defeated Lakeshore 4-2 at home.

Brady St. Pierre pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits to pick up the win. St. Pierre walked five and struck out three. Jackson Monica pitched a third of an inning before Michel Hotard came on to pick up the save, pitching an inning and two-third perfect innings, striking out three. St. Pierre and Brady Clement each had a hit and an RBI while Monica had two hits for the Comets.

St. Charles Catholic (16-5-1) has won 11 of its last 12 games and will return to action Wednesday, hosting Covenant Christian at 4 p.m. The Titans (13-9) saw their six-game win streak end and will travel to Pearl River Wednesday at 6:30 in a District 8-4A contest.
