Baseball: Jesuit, Belle Chasse, Chalmette, Fisher, Karr win Thursday

Area Prep Baseball Report for Friday, March 15

St. Augustine delivered Jesuit a bitter loss Tuesday night, rallying from a 5-1 deficit to win 6-5 in eight innings at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Thursday night at Wesley Barrow Stadium, the Blue Jays exacted revenge.

Everett Denny went 3-for-3 and drove in five runs as Jesuit hammered the Purple Knights 12-3 to split the District 9-5A series.

Jesuit belted three triples in the game which it dominated from the start.

Denny had a base-clearing triple, a two-run double, a single and two walks in a huge performance to ensure the victory.

Denny started the game with a single, Marshal Serio walked and Patrick Berrigan delivered Denny with an RBI single before Serio scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

Denny’s 3-run triple came in the second inning to make it 5-0 and Michael Brothers drove in Denny on a groundout and it was 6-0.

In the third inning, Bosco was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a pair of passed balls. He scored on an RBI single by Derek Delatte to make it 7-0.

The lead grew to 8-0 in the top of the fourth when Denny walked, Brothers reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on an RBI triple by Berrigan.

Jesuit lengthened the lead to 10-0 in the fifth inning on walks to Moreci and Delatte and the two-run double by Denny.

The Purple Knights kept the game alive in the bottom of the fifth when Bryce Robinson had an RBI single, stole second and scored on a single by Kenyon Hughes to make it 10-2

The Blue Jays finished their scoring in the sixth inning on a walk to Denny, an RBI triple to Serio and a throwing error, scoring Serio making it 12-2 before St. Aug completed the scoring as Corey Thomas stole home on the front end of a double steal.

Jake Moreci worked five innings to pick up the win. Moreci struck out seven. Beau Matulewski pitched the final two innings to nail down the win.

Jesuit (8-6, 1-1) plays Seattle Prep (Washington) today at 4 p.m. at Mike Miley Stadium in the Matt Bowers Tournament while St. Augustine (6-9, 1-1) will host Country Day Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Wesley Barrow.

In the Chalmette Tournament, Belle Chasse edged Newman 4-3.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead after one inning, led 2-0 after four innings and expanded the lead to 4-0 after five innings. The Greenies rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh inning but it was not enough.

Richardson went six innings to pick up the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on just three hits. Richardson walked two and struck out seven. Rubio pitched a perfect seventh inning with a strikeout included to pick up the save.

Dickson homered for the Cardinals and scored twice while Mouriz drove in a run.

Charles Wilson took the loss for Newman, going five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He walked three with one strikeout. Brendan Blackburn pitched the final two innings. Wilson had a hit and an RBI while Jack Nesser had a double and a run scored for Newman.

The Greenies (9-3) will play Central Catholic today.

Chalmette then defeated Belle Chasse 6-2 in the nightcap.

The Owls led 2-0 after two innings and 4-0 after three innings. Jaden Williams added an RBI single in the sixth inning before a wild pitch scored the final run for the Owls. The Cardinals scored twice in the top of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate but Devin Dipascal got the final out for the save for Bryce Wilson, who went six strong innings, allowing two runs with 10 strikeouts.

The Owls (11-2) will host John Ehret Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the District 8-5A opener for both teams.

Belle Chasse (10-5) will travel to Thibodaux Monday at 5 p.m.

Fisher scored a dramatic 4-3 win over Ellender at Segnette Field.

The Gators scored the winning run in walk-off fashion, scoring on an error in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win.

Lane Creppel starred for the Gators with two hits and an RBI and he picked up the win in relief.

Fisher (9-2) has won four straight games and will play at Bonnabel Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Patriots (4-6) will host Morgan City Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the District 7-4A opener for both teams.

Karr handled Booker T. Washington 13-3 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

The Cougars led 1-0 after one inning and 3-1 after two innings. After the Lions cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third, Karr put up five runs in the bottom of the third to lead 8-2. Booker T. Washington scored a run in the top of the fourth to make it 8-3 before the Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and a run in the fifth to end it.

Jaron Torrence had two hits and two RBI, Edward Brown Jr. had two hits and an RBI while Jordan Bunn and Jalen Fouchia each drove in a run for Karr.

Torrence picked up the win, going four innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Joshua McGee pitched a scoreless frame.

Karr (4-5) returns to District 9-5A play Tuesday on the road against John Curtis Christian while Booker T. Washington (3-6) will play at West Jefferson Saturday at 1 p.m.
