Area Prep Baseball Report for Sunday, March 17

Defending league champion Brother Martin figures to be one of the favorites, if not the favorite in the always tough, competitive District 9-5A.

The Crusaders are ready to open district play against Holy Cross Tuesday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

First, Brother Martin tuned up Saturday by posting a pair of wins.

The Crusaders defeated South Terrebonne 4-2 and downed Central Lafourche 11-1.

In the win over the Gators, Brother Martin staged a dramatic rally in its last at-bat, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning, to win it.

South Terrebonne took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before Brother Martin scored a run in the third inning to trail 2-1.

Senior Frank Randol homered, doubled and drove in two runs while junior Ryan Darrah had a double and an RBI. Freshman Luke Gab had a hit and an RBI.

Junior Jude Tingstrom went six innings to pick up the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits. Tingstrom walked three and struck out two. Sophomore Drake Amadee pitched the final inning to get the save.

The Crusaders (11-5) went on to defeat Central Lafourche 11-1 to make it a clean sweep.

Jesuit downed De La Salle 9-2 at Mandeville.

After the Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Blue Jays erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Marshal Serio had an RBI single, Patrick Berrigan gave Jesuit a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly, Joe Bosco made it 3-1 with an RBI single and Jake Moreci belted a 2-run double and it was 5-1.

The Blue Jays put it away with four runs in the fifth inning as Everett Denny drew a bases-loaded walk, Jake Brothers produced an RBI single to make it 7-1 and Serio drilled a 2-run double to make it 9-1.

De La Salle added a run in the seventh inning to finish the scoring.

Connor Donnelly picked up the win, going five innings, allowing just one run with a pair of strikeouts. Jay Comboy and Calvin Magee finished up on the mound for Jesuit.

The Blue Jays (10-6) will host Northshore Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Mike Miley Stadium.

The Cavaliers (5-6) travel to Northlake Christian Thursday.
