Softball: MCA, Chapelle, Mandeville get close wins Monday

Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, April 9

Mount Carmel Academy closed its regular season with a 2-1 win over Northshore at Muss Bertolino Playground.

Paige Reuther pitched a complete game, allowing a run on four hits with 11 strikeouts for the win. Reuther helped her own cause with an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. Mount Carmel scored the winning run, breaking a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on a wild pitch.

Northshore had taken an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning on a singles by Addison Englehardt and Gracie McCracking and a walk to Anna Doll to load the bases. Leanna Ellis walked to plate a run.

Mount Carmel (16-6), finish fourth in the Select Division I power ratings, awaits the playoff pairings to be announced later this week.

Northshore completed its regular season 17-13.

Archbishop Chapelle edged St. Charles Catholic 1-0 at Butch Duhe Playground.

The Chipmunks scored the lone run in the bottom of the first inning on singles by Taylor Allen and Ashley Domangue and a sacrifice fly by Mia Impastato, scoring Allen, who had two hits in the game.

Southern Miss signee Kayla Giardina pitched a one-hitter, walking two with five strikeouts to get a hard-earned victory.

Kamryn Cancienne took the loss despite pitching an outstanding game. Cancienne allowed just one run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Hailey Scioneaux had the only hit for the Comets, a single in the top of the third inning.

Chapelle (19-7) is set to get the fifth-seed in the Select Division I playoff bracket to be announced later this week.

Mandeville scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to win 3-2 at Northlake Christian.

The Skippers took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and fifth innings before the Wolverines tied it with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Mia Graefenstein had a hit and an RBI while Lindsay Berniard and Grace Richard each drove in a run for Mandeville. Hailey Marange pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on three hits. Marange walked no one and struck out seven, using 92 pitches.

Mandeville (16-7), currently 19th in the Non-Select Division I power ratings, will host Lakeshore today at 4:30 in its regular season finale.

Northlake Christian (13-8), seventh in the Select Division III power ratings, is home in its regular season finale against Cabrini today at 3:30 p.m.
