Softball: Haynes, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, St. Martin’s win Tuesday

Area Prep Softball Report for Wednesday, April 10

Haynes Academy closed out its regular season Tuesday with its fourth straight win, winning 10-1 at Terrebonne.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead after one inning but it was all Yellow Jackets from that point on.

Haynes scored four runs in the top of the second inning and scored in all but one inning the rest of the way, adding two runs in the third, a run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh inning.

Hailey Peterson starred again for Haynes, pitching a two-hitter, allowing no earned runs with five strikeouts. Peterson went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run and five RBI. Finley Cressent and Ava Palumbo each added two hits and an RBI while Julia Hosch and Ella Lewis each had a hit and an RBI for Haynes.

Kaylie Bergeron took the loss for Terrebonne, allowing six earned runs. Bergeron had a double while Ella Dupre had a hit and drove in the lone run for the Tigers.

Haynes (19-6) is the fifth-ranked team in Select Division II heading into the state playoffs and will receive a first-round bye before hosting a second-round game at the JPRD complex.

Terrebonne (6-17) has completed its regular season.

In a District 11-4A contest, Ben Franklin outscored Warren Easton 15-8 for its third straight win.

The Falcons (6-9, 5-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and a run in the second to lead 6-0. It was 10-3 after three innings and 12-5 after five innings.

Alora Jensen led the way with three hits and five RBI, Saharah Howard homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs while Sydney Davis had two hits, including a home run and two RBI to pace Ben Franklin. Cate Bilbe had three hits, including a double with two RBI. Akshita Sridhar added a hit and an RBI as the Falcons pounded 17 hits. Maleah Leal got the win, allowing eight runs on eight hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

Thomas Jefferson scored early and late and held off John Ehret 13-9 in Marrero.

The game was tied 5-5 after one inning and Thomas Jefferson led 8-5 after two innings. The Patriots cut the deficit to 8-7 after four innings before the Jaguars added a run to lead 9-7 after six innings. Thomas Jefferson scored four runs in the top of the seventh and the Patriots finished the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Ava Pastor had four hits, including a triple with four RBI for Thomas Jefferson while Micha Williams had two hits, including a triple with two RBI. Addison Cuccia and Madison Reine each had two hits and an RBI while Carson Heigle was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Heigle went the distance to get the win.

Thomas Jefferson (10-8-1) and John Ehret (12-10) are finished with the regular season.

St. Martin’s Episcopal bounced Bonnabel 17-1 in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule.

The Saints scored twice in the first and second innings and added six runs in the third to take a commanding 11-0 lead. The Bruins scored a run in the top of the fourth before St. Martin’s ended it with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Sofia Divicenti had three hits and five RBI while Eliza Didriksen added two hits and two RBI. Jessie Gaspard had a hit and two RBI while Gabby Mannino and Alex Pevey each had two hits and an RBI. Gianna Mandella and Sophie Miller each contributed a hit and an RBI. Divincenti pitched four hitless innings, allowing an unearned run with no walks and six strikeouts to get the win.

St. Martin’s (7-9) and Bonnabel (3-14) have concluded the regular season.
