Prep Softball Playoff Report for Saturday, April 13

The LHSAA prep softball playoffs continued Friday with opening round games.

In Non-Select Division I, No. 17 Hahnville made the long trip to Bossier City and took a 10-6win over No. 16 Airline.

The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning before Hahnville cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third inning. The Tigers took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning and put it away with five runs in the sixth inning. Airline scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Amberly Dempster had two hits, including a home run and drove in five runs to pace the Tigers. Jenna Cancienne homered and drove in two runs and Kloe White homered and drove in a run. Emma Jackson and Adeline Bertrand each drove in a run. White went the distance to pick up the win, allowing three earned runs on nine hits. White walked one and struck out two.

Hahnville (19-14) advances to play at top seed Dutchtown Tuesday at 5 p.m.

In Non-Select Division III, No. 13 St. James edged No. 20 Springfield, 8-7.

St. James led 3-2 after one inning and 6-5 after two innings. Springfield took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fourth but the Wildcats tied it at 7-7 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. St. James scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth ining and held on for the win.

Eighth-grader Colbie Mitchell had three hits, including a home run and drove in three runs. Sa’Vya Sutherland had three hits, including two doubles while freshman Tierney Zenon had two hits and two RBI. Jai Bright contributed three hits and an RBI and eighth-grader Faith Reulet had a hit and an RBI. Reulet went the distance to get the win, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

St. James (14-14) advances to the regional round to play at No. 4 Kaplan Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

In Select Division I action Friday, No. 17 John Ehret went to northeast Louisiana and outlasted No. 16 Northwood 11-10.

John Ehret jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning but Northwood scored a run in the second and four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead. The Patriots responded with six runs on five hits with three walks in the fifth to recapture the lead at 9-5 before Northwood scored twice in the bottom of the frame to make it 9-7.

The Patriots scored two in the top of the sixth and it was 11-7 before Northwood scored three runs in the sixth to account for the final score.

Jacey Stelljes had a huge two-run double in the fifth inning to give John Ehret the lead for good. Abigail Gisclair went the distance to get the win for Ehret.

The Patriots (13-10) advance to play at No. 1 seed St. Thomas More in the regional round.

In Select Division III, No. 9 Fisher routed No. 24 St. Mary’s Academy, 18-1, in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule.

The Gators scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, added four runs in the second inning and ended it with four runs in the third inning.

Laken Chauvin had three hits and four RBI, Riley Tassin had two hits and three RBI, Talyn Feicht had two hits and two RBI while Madison Lightell, Malia Otero and Jessie Schutt each drove in a run. Gabby St. Ann did not allow a hit in picking up the win. St. Ann allowed an unearned run, walked four and struck out eight.

Fisher (14-8) advances to face No. 8 Patrick Taylor Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Westwego Playground.
