Prep Softball Playoff Report for Sunday, April 14

Ninth-seeded Destrehan advanced to the regional round of the Non-Select Division I prep softball playoffs Saturday with a 3-1 victory over No. 24 Denham Springs.

The Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the second inning before the Yellow Jackets tied it at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Destrehan scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.

Youth was served for the Wildcats.

Freshman Jolie Lozano pitched a complete game two-hitter to earn the victory. Lozano walked two and struck out three, using 83 pitches.

Lozano led an eight-hit attack with three hits, including a double and an RBI while freshman Rylie Staton had two hits and an RBI. Junior Ava Burkett added a double and scored a run.

Destrehan (25-7) with their sixth straight victory advance to the regional round to play at Live Oak at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The No. 8 Eagles blanked No. 25 Northshore 3-0 in the opening round.
