John Curtis, Lutcher, Doyle, St. Charles Catholic earn No. 2 seeds in softball playoffs

No area teams achieved a top seed for the LHSAA state softball playoffs but there are high seeds with great chances to win state titles, including Ponchatoula, Lutcher, Doyle, John Curtis Christian, Mount Carmel, E.D. White Catholic, St. Charles Catholic, Houma Christian and defending state champion Riverside Academy, all of whom are top four seeds.

In the Non-Select Division I bracket, Dutchtown (21-6) is the top seed with a first-round bye. The Griffins will face the winner of No. 17 Hahnville (18-14) at No. 16 Airline, who play in Bossier City Friday at 5 p.m.

Southside (19-7) is the second seed with a bye and will play the winner of No. 15 Chalmette (15-9), who will host No. 18 Ruston Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Defending state champion St. Amant (21-10) gets the third seed and a bye and the Gators will face the winner of No. 19 Mandeville (17-7) and No. 14 Central, who play Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Central.

No. 4 Ponchatoula (22-7) gets a bye and will play the winner of No. 13 Slidell (23-7) and No. 20 Barbe, who meet in Slidell. Should Slidell win, the Tigers would face a rematch with District 6-5A rival Ponchatoula. The Green Wave defeated the Tigers 6-2 March 26.

No. 9 Destrehan (24-7) will entertain No. 24 Denham Springs.

No 25 Northshore (17-13) travels to No. 8 Live Oak.

No. 26 Covington (18-11) heads to No. 7 West Ouachita.

In Non-Select Division II, defending state champion North DeSoto (27-4) is the top seed with a bye. The Griffins play the winner of No. 16 Cecilia and No. 17 Rayne.

Lutcher (20-7) is the second seed with a bye before playing the winner of No. 15 Loranger (16-6) and No. 18 Morgan City (14-12).

Brusly (24-6) is the third seed and the Panthers get a bye before meeting the winner between No. 14 Albany (16-10) and No. 19 Franklin Parish.

No. 4 North Vermilion (22-6) has a bye and will entertain the winner of No. 20 Franklinton (10-10) and No. 13 Minden, who play Friday at 4:30 p.m.

No. 12 Belle Chasse (15-9) hosts No. 21 DeRidder Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 22 Lakeshore (10-15) plays at No. 11 Eunice Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 23 Pearl River (7-14) is at No. 10 Assumption (17-12) Friday at 4 p.m.

In Non-Select Division III, Sterlington ( is the No. 1 seed with a bye. The Panthers will face off with the winner of No. 16 Port Barre and No. 17 Marksville.

Doyle (21-5) is the second seed and has a bye before taking on the winner of No. 15 Church Point and No. 18 Avoyelles.

No. 3 Kinder (24-4) has a bye before meeting the winner of No. 14 Rosepine and No. 19 North Webster.

Defending state champion and No. 4 seed Kaplan (26-5) gets a bye before facing the winner of No. 20 Springfield (9-14), who plays at No. 13 St. James (13-14) Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 21 Berwick (8-18) is at No. 12 Mamou Friday at 5:30 p.m.

No. 22 Pine (7-10) plays at No. 11 Many.

In Non-Select Division IV, Logansport (22-7) has the top seed with a bye before squaring off with the winner of No. 17 South Plaquemines (5-10) and No. 16 Lake Arthur, who play Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 2 Oak Grove (15-6) has a bye and will play the winner of No. 15 Plain Dealing and No. 18 Pickering.

Montgomery (24-7) is the third seed and will play the winner of No. 14 Welsh and No. 19 Haynesville.

No. 4 LaSalle (14-10) has a bye before taking on the winner of No. DeQuincy and No. 20 Basile.

Defending state champion and No. 5 seed French Settlement (16-10) gets a bye before meeting the winner of No. 12 Mangham and No. 21 Delcambre.

No. 24 West St. John (10-3) is at No. 9 Vinton.

No. 26 Varnado (5-6) is at No. 7 Oakdale.

In Non-Select Division V, Quitman (25-4) is the top seed with a bye. Quitman will face the winner of No. 16 Monterey and No. 17 Castor.

Zwolle (28-4) is the No. 2 seed with a bye before meeting the winner of No. 15 Simsboro and No. 18 Evans.

No. 3 Choudrant (18-5) has a bye and will play the winner of No. 14 Fairview and No. 19 Starks.

Bell City (13-9) is the fourth seed with a bye before playing the winner of No. 13 Summerfield and No. 20 Harrisonburg.

Defending state champion Converse (14-8) is the No. 5 seed with a bye before facing the winner of No. 12 Pitkin and No. 21 Gibsland-Coleman.

No. 11 Holden (9-16) entertains No. 22 Ebarb Friday at 5 p.m.

On the Select side in Division I, defending state champion St. Thomas More (27-3) is the No. 1 seed with a bye before meeting the winner of No. 17 John Ehret (12-10), who plays at No. 16 Northwood.

John Curtis Christian (21-6) has the No. 2 seed and a bye before playing the winner of No. 18 Karr (12-12), who plays at No. 15 Riverdale (15-13). The Rebels downed the Cougars 18-3 on Feb. 24 while the Patriots handled District 9-5A rival Karr 15-0 on March 21. John Curtis could face District 9-5A rival Dominican in the quarterfinals. The Patriots beat Dominican 10-0 on March 19.

No. 3 Tioga (23-6) has a bye and will play the winner of No. 14 Caddo Magnet and No. 19 Byrd.

Mount Carmel Academy (16-6) gets the fourth seed and a bye before taking on the winner of No. 20 St. Scholastica (11-12), who plays at No. 13 Acadiana Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 5 Archbishop Chapelle (19-7) has a bye and the Chipmunks face the winner of No. 12 Woodlawn of Baton Rouge and No. 21 McDonogh 35 (12-6).

Chapelle and Mount Carmel are seeded to meet in the quarterfinals. The District 9-5A rivals played a thriller in the regular season with the Chipmunks winning 1-0 in a game streamed live on CrescentCitySports.com.

No. 10 Dominican (11-16) hosts No. 23 Warren Easton (7-9) Friday at 4 p.m. at Harahan Playground.

No. 22 Ben Franklin (8-9) travels to No. 11 Lafayette Thursday at 5 p.m.

In Select Division II, defending state champion and top seed Buckeye (23-7) has a bye and will take on the winner of No. 16 The Willow School (11-4), who will entertain No. 17 Madison Prep.

Vandebilt Catholic (25-5) is the second seed with a bye. The Terriers will face the winner between No. 15 Cabrini (8-11) and No. 18 Lake Charles College Prep.

Archbishop Hannan (23-6) is the third seed and the Hawks will meet the winner of No. 14 De La Salle (9-13-1) and No. 19 Peabody.

No. 4 E.D. White Catholic (20-9) gets a bye before squaring off with the winner of No. 13 Lafayette Christian and No. 20 Booker T. Washington of Shreveport.

Haynes Academy (19-6) is the fifth seed with a bye. The Yellow Jackets will face the winner of No. 12 Kenner Discovery (11-11) and No. 21 St. Louis Catholic, who play at 5 p.m. Friday at the JPRD Complex.

No. 6 Academy of Our Lady (16-11) has a bye and the Penguins will meet the winner of No. 11 Evangel Christian and No. 22 Washington-Marion.

No. 23 Booker T. Washington of New Orleans (4-6) is at No. 10 Bunkie Thursday at 5 p.m.

No. 24 Landry (4-8) plays at No. 9 St. Michael Friday at 4:30 p.m.

In Select Division III, defending state champion Calvary Baptist (31-2) is the No. 1 seed. The Cavaliers will square off with the winner of No. 16 Loyola Prep and No. 17 Beekman Charter.

St. Charles Catholic (20-5) is the No. 2 seed. The Comets have a bye and will meet the winner of No. 15 Catholic of New Iberia and No. 18 Newman (12-5). Should the Greenies pull an upset, they would face a rematch with District 10-2A rival Newman, who defeated the Comets 13-0 on April 9.

No. 3 Houma Christian (20-9) has a bye before playing the winner of No. 14 Thomas Jefferson (10-8-1) and No. 19 Dunham. Should the Jaguars defeat the Tigers, they would face a rematch with District 9-2A rival Houma Christian, who handled Thomas Jefferson 15-0 on March 20

No. 4 Holy Savior Menard (20-10) gets a bye and will play the winner of No. 13 University Lab and No. 20 Acadiana Renaissance Charter.

No. 7 Northlake Christian (14-8) has a bye and the Wolverines will meet the winner of No. 10 Pope John Paul II (14-14) and No. 23 Episcopal, who play in Slidell. Should the Jaguars win, they would play District 7-2A rival Northlake Christian in the regional round. Pope John Paul II defeated the Wolverines 12-7 on March 19.

No. 8 Patrick Taylor (14-6) gets a bye before meeting the winner of No. 9 Fisher (13-8), who will host No. 24 St. Mary’s Academy (3-15). The Gators whipped St. Mary’s Academy 18-0 on March 14.

No. 11 Country Day (18-4) is home against No. 22 Glenmora.

No. 21 St. Thomas Aquinas (6-12) plays at No. 12 Parkview Baptist Saturday at 4 p.m.

In Select Division IV, Opelousas Catholic (21-6) is the No. 1 seed with a bye before playing the winner of No. 16 McGehee (13-4) and No. 17 Cedar Creek.

No. 2 Catholic of Pointe Coupee (18-14) has a bye and will meet the winner of No. 15 Central Catholic (12-13) and No. 18 Slaughter Community Charter.

No. 3 seed and defending state champion Riverside Academy (18-7) has a bye before facing the winner of No. 14 St. Edmund and No. 19 Highland Baptist.

No. 4 St. Frederick (18-8) has a bye before hosting the winner of No. 13 Glenbrook and No. 20 Vermilion Catholic.

No. 12 Covenant Christian (14-9) will host No. 21 St. Martin’s Episcopal (7-9).

In Select Division V, Grace Christian (21-6) gets the top seed and a bye and will face No. 8 Avoyelles Public Charter in the regional round.

No. 2 Family Community (13-9) is home against No. 7 Oak Hill.

Defending state champion and No. 3 seed Claiborne Christian (11-10) plays host to No. 6 Downsville.

No. 4 Northside Christian (11-8) plays No. 5 St. Joseph’s-Plaucheville in the regional round.
