Wrestling: St. Paul’s downs Catholic, Hannan handles Thomas Jefferson

St. Paul’s continued it’s excellent season on the mat, easily defeating Catholic of Baton Rouge 61-9 Wednesday night in Covington.

The Wolves were dominant, winning 11 of the 12 matches contested.

Scoring falls for St. Paul’s were Trey Faherty (113), Michael Rader (126), Sean Cripple (138), Grant Vicknair (152), Peyton Ward (160), Landry Barker (170) and Blain Cascio (182).

The long winner for Catholic was Luke Caballero at 106 pounds.

In the feature match of the dual, Grant Nastasi of the Wolves got a takedown in the final 10 seconds to edge Peter Kelly of Catholic 5-3. Nastasi was fourth in the state at 138 pounds last season while Kelly was second in state at 132 pounds.

Archbishop Hannan handled Thomas Jefferson 60-6.

The Hawks won four of the five matches contested.

Winning by fall for Hannan were Preston Gautier (152), Grayson Pennison (160), Patrick Rist (220) and Joel Marchand (285).

Destin Pitre (145) won by pin for the Jaguars.
