Warren Easton, Amite earn top seeds in LHSAA non-select girls prep basketball playoffs

LHSAA GIRLS’ BASKETBALL BRACKETS

The 12 brackets for the Louisiana high school girls basketball playoffs were released monday.

In Division I, Walker (27-1) is the top seed and will open at home against No. 32 Natchitoches Central.

Parkway (28-1) gets the second see and will host No. 31 Acadiana.

Lafayette (26-4) earned the third seed and hosts No. 30 Fontainebleau.

Ponchatoula (30-2) is the fourth seed and the Green Wave gets a home game with No. 29 Sam Houston. Ponchatoula, featuring Tulane signee Jaylee Womack, is seeded to play Walker in the semifinals if form holds. The Green Wave won a state championship in 2015.

Talented East St. John (25-3) is the sixth seed and will entertain No. 27 Live Oak.

Northshore (21-9) is seeded 10th and the Lady Panthers await No. 23 Thibodaux.

No. 13 West Jefferson (20-7) hosts No. 20 Haughton.

Chalmette (16-5) gets the 19th seed and the Owls go to No. 14 Denham Springs.

No. 22 Mandeville (18-13) makes a long trip north to No. 11 Shreveport Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 24 Hahnville (18-15) travels to No. 9 West Monroe.

Defending state champion Captain Shreve is seeded 26th and till play at No. 7 Barbe.

Perennial power Warren Easton (19-9) is the top seed in 4A. The Lady Eagles have won state titles in 2015, 2018, 2019 and played in the title game in 2014 and 2020.

Warren Easton plays host to No. 32 Istrouma.

Bastrop (25-4) is seeded second and will host No. 31 Plaquemine.

Karr (20-11) is the third seed and the Lady Cougars will entertain No. 30 Leesville Thursday at 6 p.m. Karr is battle tested, having played a tough schedule.

No. 4 South Lafourche (21-7) is at home against No. 29 Westgate.

In a matchup of local teams, No. 7 Belle Chasse (20-10) will host No. 26 John F. Kennedy (12-13)Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 8 Salmen (18-9) awaits No. 25 Woodlawn of Shreveport.

No. 14 Pearl River (20-10) gets a home game with No. 19 Northwood.

No. 20 McMain (12-9) plays at No. 13 Opelousas Wednesday at 6 p.m.

No. 22 Lakeshore (10-14) heads to LaGrange.

No. 23 Carver (9-6) travels to No. 10 Carencro Thursday at 6 p.m.

Warren Easton and Salmen, a pair of powers who have met in the finals in 2014 and in 2015, are seeded to square off in the quarterfinals. The Spartans won 4A state titles in 2013 and 2014 and played in the state championship game in 2015 and 2017.

In Class 3A, Brusly (26-4) is the top seed and the Lady Panthers will play No. 31 Glen Oaks Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Wossman (23-5) is seeded second and will host No. 31 St. Martinville Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 3 Albany (21-6) awaits a familiar foe in in District 8-3A rival No. 30 Bogalusa Thursday at 6 p.m. The Hornets won both regular season meetings in convincing fashion.

Defending state champion Madison Prep (17-11) is the fourth seed and the Lady Chargers play host to No. 29 Church Point.

No. 9 Loranger (18-6) is home to No. 24 Bossier.

No. 17 Kenner Discovery (19-11) just missed a home game and will travel to No. 16 West Feliciana Thursday at 6 p.m.

25th-ranked McDonogh 35 (10-12) heads to No. 8 Iota Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 18 New Orleans Science and Math (12-3) travels to No. 15 Donaldsonville (20-13).

In Class 2A, high scoring Amite (27-2) is the top seed and the Lady Warriors will host District 9-2A rival and No. 31 seed Kentwood (5-16). Amite drilled the Lady Kangaroos 83-27 on Feb. 4.

No. 2 Lakeview (24-2) plays host to No. 31 Pickering.

No. 3 Rayville (24-7) is home against No. 30 Northeast.

No. 4 Avoyelles Public Charter (22-7) entertains No. 29 Delhi Charter Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

No. 5 Lake Arthur (23-6) is the defending state champion and will play host to No. 28 Madison.

French Settlement (20-8) is the 10th seed and gets No. 23 Mangham Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 14 Doyle, a traditional power, gets a home game against No. 19 Avoyelles Thursday at 6 p.m. at Doyle Elementary School. Doyle (12-16) played in the state title game a year ago, losing 62-61 to Lake Arthur and Doyle won the state championship in 2020.

No. 17 Pine (14-8) heads to No. 16 Jonesboro Hodge.

No. 20 South Plaquemines (14-7) heads to No. 13 Winnfield.

No. 25 St. Helena (16-14) plays at No. 8 Springfield (20-6).

In Class 1A, Northwood-Lena (30-1) is the top seed and gets a first-round bye, along with No. 2 North Central (20-8), No. 3 White Castle (12-12) and No. 4 Merryville (24-6).

In Class B, Hathaway (29-4) gets the top seed and gets a first-round bye, along with No. 2 Fairview (33-5), No. 3 Florien (34-2) and No. 4 Midland (22-11). Fairview is the defending state champion and has won eight state titles since 2007 and has captured a Louisiana-best 13 state championships overall.

Holden (22-9) is the sixth seed and gets an opening round bye.

In Class C, Hicks (30-5), a 3-time defending state champion, is the top seed and gets No. 16 Simpson in the opening round. Hicks has won four state championships overall.

No. 2 Gibsland-Coleman (23-5) will host No. 15 Pleasant Hill on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.

No. 3 Summerfield (25-11) gets No. 14 Epps and No. 4 seed Plainview (22-16), a 2-time state champion, will host No. 13 Georgetown. Plainview won most recently in 2018.
