Volleyball: Sacred Heart, Mandeville open with four-set wins

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Tuesday, August 29, 2023

The prep volleyball season is underway in Louisiana.

Sacred Heart opened its season with a tough four-set win over Kenner Discovery, downing the Swamp Owls 25-12, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14 in uptown New Orleans.

Seniors and Gigi Gibbens led the way as Farris had 12 kills and Gibbens contributed eight kills. Senor Lily Stone served five aces while junior Taylor Roberts had 13 digs and Kate Farris had 12 digs.

Both teams are back in action today. The Cardinals will entertain St. Martin’s Episcopal at 5:30 p.m. while the Swamp Owls return to action at home today against St. Katharine Drexel at 5 p.m.

In another good four-set match, Mandeville overcame a first-set loss to win at Lakeshore 16-25, 25-13, 29-27, 25-16.

Senior Maison Vigil had 14 kills and five blocks, senior Kate Bellows had 11 kills, two aces and two assists and junior Hanna Hunter finished with 10 kills and three digs. Junior Ella Marquez finished with 26 digs and senior Elle Warren was outstanding with 33 assists and 25 digs.

Both sides return to action Thursday as Mandeville will host traditional power Pope John Paul II at 5:30 p.m. while Lakeshore will host Slidell, also at 5:30 p.m.
