Volleyball: Dominican gets revenge with win over Hannan; Chalmette and Country Day stay hot with wins

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Wednesday, Sept. 20

They are, unquestionably, two of the top teams in Louisiana in any classification, both sitting at No. 1 in the power rankings in their respective classes.

Three-time defending Division I state champion Dominican lost to Division III power Archbishop Hannan in three sets in the Catholic League Tournament, hosted by Academy of The Sacred Heart, over the weekend. It was the first loss for Dominican.

Two days later, Dominican extracted revenge, downing the Hawks 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22 at Hannan Tuesday.

Camryn Chatellier led the charge for Dominican with 20 kills and 25 digs while Gabby Marcello had 39 assists. Tamia Williams added eight kills.

Sophia Bonnafee led Hannan with 24 kills and 17 digs, Sarah Kirsch dished up 49 assists and Miranda Holincheck had 28 digs.

Dominican (10-1) faces another tough test Thursday at defending Division IV state champion Newman at 5:30 p.m.

Archbishop Hannan (14-2) will entertain St. Scholastica next Tuesday.

Chalmette made it six straight wins, handling Belle Chasse 25-11, 25-18, 25-14.

Gabrielle Landry and JoDee McMichael led the Owls, each recording 12 kills. Landry added five blocks while McMichael had seven digs, four aces and two blocks. Alivyah Peters had 26 assists and nine digs. Cecilia Higgins finished with 20 digs.

Chalmette (10-2) will travel to John Curtis Christian Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in another good matchup.

The Cardinals (12-6) will host Patrick Taylor Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Seven-time defending Division V state champion Country Day defeated E.D. White Catholic 27-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 at home.

Jade Washington led the attack with 16 kills, Maggie Schneider had 35 assists and Leila Washington had 16 digs. Gigi Dazet and Addison Launey each served three aces and Lia Beverly had five blocks.

The Cajuns (8-3) will host John Curtis Christian today at 5:30 p.m. while the Cardinals (9-3) will play at Ascension Catholic next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
