NEW ORLEANS – As Tulane opened spring practice Tuesday, the spotlight figured to fall in two places.

It was Jon Sumrall’s first practice at the helm of the Green Wave, and it was highly touted quarterback Ty Thompson’s first practice since transferring to Tulane from Oregon.

The evaluation on Thompson will have to wait.

Sumrall said after practice that Thompson had a “procedure” on his left foot that would keep him out of full-scale drills for about another week.

With Thompson limited to some work on the side, Kai Horton – who started Tulane’s Military Bowl loss to Virginia Tech – and redshirt freshman Darian Mensah shared time at the QB spot.

Tulane will practice again Thursday. The Green Wave’s spring game is April 20.
