The inclimate weather throughout south Louisiana has wreaked havoc with the early season prep volleyball schedule.

Several matches slated for Monday were postponed and with school canceled throughout New Orleans, many season opening volleyball matches slated for today have been postponed.

Among the matches played, Vandebilt Catholic downed Slidell 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 in the season opener for both teams at Houma. Emily Gauthreaux led the way for the Terriers with 13 kills and two aces, Andrea Buquet had 34 assists and Britanny Theriot totaled 16 digs.

Vandebilt Catholic is set to return to action at Central Catholic Wednesday at 4 p.m. while the Tigers play at Lakeshore Thursday at 4 p.m.

Powerhouse St. Joseph’s Academy traveled to Metairie and had to overcome an early deficit in a 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 victory over pesky Archbishop Chapelle. The Redstickers return to action Thursday in New Orleans against Cabrini at 6 p.m. while the Chipmunks had a match scheduled today with Sacred Heart of New Orleans canceled and will now return to action Sept. 5 at Ben Franklin at 4:30 p.m.

In Baton Rouge, Parkview Baptist served notice that it is ready to contend for state honors as the Eagles took down Division I power Mandeville 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 in impressive fashion.

Annmarie Peavy led the way with six kills and 15 digs for Parkview Baptist while Leanne Sorrel had four kills, 13 assists and eight digs. Hannah Fontenot dished out 21 assists.

The Eagles are back in action today at Central at 6 p.m. while the Skippers will host three-time defending Division IV state champion Pope John Paul II Thursday at 5 p.m.
