UTEP guard Trey Touchet transferring to McNeese

St. Thomas More product Trey Touchet, a two-time Louisiana Gatorade basketball Player of the Year in 2013-’14, is transferring from UTEP, is headed home.

The 6-2, 190 pound guard will play his final season with the McNeese State Cowboys.

Touchet played in 89 contests at UTEP over the past three seasons. During the 2016-’17 campaign, he averaged 17.8 minutes a game in 32 outings but this past season his contribution dropped to 11 minutes per contest. He shot 41 precent from the field and 68.8 percent from the charity stripe, averaging 2.3 points for the Miners.

The Lafayette native scored 18.3 points a game, pulled down 6.4 rebounds and added 4 assists per out his senior campaign at St. Thomas More.

McNeese finished 11-18 this past season, including 8-10 in the Southland Conference. New head coach Heath Schroyer takes over a Cowboys program that loses three of its top four scorers, including two guards (brothers Kaleb and Jacob Ledoux from Lafayette Christian) due to transfer.
