The University of Louisiana-Monroe football program is looking for a new head coach.

Terry Bowden has been dismissed as head coach after three years on the job.

Bowden posted a record of 10-26 in three seasons. The Warhawks were just 2-10 this season.

The next hire will be the 17th head coach in ULM history.

The last winning season for the Warhawks was in 2012 under Todd Berry.

The last winning season prior to 2012 was in 1993.

Pat Collins had four straight winning seasons from 1982-85.

In 1987, Collins led then Northeast Louisiana to a magical 13-2 season and the Indians won the NCAA Division I-AA national championship, beating Marshall 43-42 in a thrilling title game. NLU featured future NFL quarterback Stan Humphries.

Dave Roberts put together four consecutive winning seasons from 1990-93.

Since then, it was been a downward spiral, with the program employing Ed Zaunbrecher, Bobby Keasler, Mike Collins, Charlie Weatherbie, Todd Berry, John Mumford, Matt Viator and Bowden as head coaches.

James L. Malone spent 20 years as head coach at ULM from 1934-53.

It is a difficult job to win at.

ULM director of athletics John Hartwell says he will conduct a national search for the program’s next head coach.

RELEASE: ULM Will Seek New Leadership for Its Football Program

Monroe, La. — University of Louisiana-Monroe Director of Athletics John Hartwell announced Sunday that he will seek new leadership for the Warhawks’ football program.

“After a thorough review, we have decided to make a change in the leadership of ULM football,” Hartwell said. “I want to thank Coach Terry Bowden for all he has done over the last three years for our football program and our university.”

Hartwell said he has begun a national search. He will conduct a press conference to discuss the change tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 27) at 11 a.m. C.T. in the Players Lounge in Malone Stadium.

Bowden was hired as the program’s 16th head coach on Dec. 23, 2020. In his three seasons as head coach the Warhawks went 4-8 twice and 2-10 in 2023. ULM went 5-19 in the Sun Belt Conference during those three seasons.
