UCF run-rules McNeese in softball series finale

ORLANDO, Fla. — McNeese softball suffered a run-ruled 11-3 (5 inn.) loss at Central Florida Saturday in the final game of the three-game series.

McNeese (3-10) took an early lead in the first inning on a Cori McCrary solo homerun to centerfield, her fourth of the season to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.

UCF (9-2) exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first behind five consecutive hits and batting through the order. The Knight’s added to their lead in the second inning with four runs to extend their lead to 11-1.

The Cowgirls scored two more runs in the fourth on a UCF error and a RBI single up the middle by Alayis Seneca but weren’t able to push any more runs across in the fifth to extend the game.

McNeese picked up six hits in the game and were led by Jil Poullard who had two hits. McCrary and Padyn Williams had one hit apiece both were extra base hits. Williams doubled to right field in the fourth inning.

UCF ended the game with 12 hits with Jazmine Esparza and Katie Burge leading the Knights with two apiece.

McNeese used three pitchers in the game. Starter Saleen Flores took the loss after giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in 2/3 innings. Ashley Vallejo gave up four earned runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings and Jenna Edwards allowed one hit in two innings.

The Cowgirls will end their week against ranked opponents at No. 6 Florida Sunday. First pitch is set for noon (CT). Streaming and live stats will be available. Links can be found on mcneesesports.com.
