Privateers clinch series win over Warhawks with 7-4 victory

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (4-2) took advantage of three Warhawk errors and got strong pitching from the pen once again in a 7-4 win over the ULM Warhawks (1-2) on Saturday at Maestri Field.

With the win, the Privateers have moved to within one victory of the 1,500-win mark. On the weekend, the Privateer pen has thrown 9.1 scoreless innings with six hits allowed and eight strikeouts.

KHACH-ING IN
Kyle Khachadourian came in and was assisted by a huge play at the plate and went on to assert his presence on the mound. Grant Schulz singled to left but a 7-5-2 relay cut down Wiley Cleland at the plate to keep the game tied.

Khachadourian went on to pitch three more scoreless frames with three strikeouts to secure the victory. He allowed only two more baserunners on a hit and a walk.

PILING UP THE SAVES
Collin Kulivan put the finishing touches on his fourth save in as many opportunities this season. After a pair of two-out singles, Kulivan settled back in and got a pop out off the bat of Wiley Cleland to finish the game.

YOUNG GUNS
Issac Williams made a couple of stellar plays in the field including starting the relay in the fifth. He also had two hits and two RBI at the plate. Kasten Furr blasted a solo home run in the second inning to open the scoring.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Luther Woullard added two hits to his season total along with two runs and an RBI. The Privateers drew a season high 10 walks with two apiece from Gaige Howard, Pearce Howard and Beau Bratton. The Privateers turned all three ULM errors into runs. Brandon Mitchell struck out five in 4.2 innings.

NEXT UP
The Privateers go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. Bailey Holstein will start against Tyler Lien of ULM.
