NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men’s basketball (11-6, 2-3) will get its second shot at a ranked opponent in Uptown this season as it welcomes No. 10 Memphis (15-3, 4-1) into Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse for a Sunday showdown. The Green Wave is riding a 53-game losing streak against top 25 opponents and not beaten a ranked Memphis team since 1992.

The game between the Green Wave and the Tigers is set to tipoff at 12 p.m. on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 104.1 The Spot with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

The Green Wave is 27-176 against ranked opponents since 1950 including an 17-60 mark at home. The last time the Wave defeated a top 25 opponent came in a 73-62 victory over No. 25 NC State at home on December 22, 1999. Tulane lost 85-84 on January 11 to No. 24 Florida Atlantic in its most recent contest against a ranked opponent.

This marks the 75th all-time meeting between the Green Wave and the Tigers with Memphis leading the series 61-13. Tulane holds a 9-21 record at home against the Tigers including wins in the last two meetings in Uptown. The Wave went 2-1 last season against Memphis dropping the final matchup of the season 94-54 in the AAC Tournament semifinals on March 11, 2023.

In its last time out, Tulane dropped a physical battle on the road to UAB 83-69 on Wednesday night. All five starters finished with double figures in scoring for the Green Wave led by Kevin Cross with 14 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. However, the scoring by the starting five was not enough to overcome a 49-29 deficit in the rebounding battle and 48 points in the paint by the Blazers.

So far this season at home Tulane holds an 8-2 record including a 1-1 mark in conference play. The Green Wave is averaging 91.9 points on 52.9 percent shooting in Uptown while allowing opponents to score 75.4 points per game.

Memphis enters the matchup ranked No. 10 in the country with a 15-3 record overall and a 4-1 record in league play after dropping their first league matchup 74-73 at home to South Florida on Thursday. The Tigers are 5-1 this season in true road games including 2-0 in conference play averaging 83.8 points on 49.3 percent shooting in those games.

The Tigers are led by experienced players at the top of their rotation. Senior David Jones leads the team and the conference in scoring with 21.1 points per game which ranks 10th in the nation. Fifth year senior Jahvon Quinerly averages 14.2 points per game and has hit two game-winning threes in league play.

Following the matchup against Memphis, the Green Wave travel to San Antonio to square off against UTSA on Wednesday, January 24. The game between Tulane and the Roadrunners is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
