Tuesday’s CCS Prep Summer League recaps with updated standings

CCS Prep Summer League

Northshore-based Peck’s Seafood strengthened its chances of reaching the Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League playoffs with a 3-1 victory Tuesday over Brother Martin-based K’s for Kids Tuesday in Slidell.

The game was scoreless into the top of the fourth when the Crusaders scored on an RBI single by Cole Navarro to take a 1-0 lead. The Panthers answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 2-run double by Noah Lasseigne. Ayden Strecker drove in a run on a fielder’s choice grounder in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin of victory.

Connor Smith pitched four innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits to get the win. Eli Price pitched two innings of scoreless ball to pick up the save, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Michael Hymel took the loss in relief of Patrick Laiche. Frank Randol had two hits, including a double for K’s for Kids.

Both teams are in action Wednesday. Peck’s Seafood (6-2) plays its final regular season game at Lakeshore while K’s for Kids (6-3) travels to Mandeville-based Gulf Coast Bank & Trust.

The Skippers kept their playoff hopes alive, blasting Lakeshore 15-1 in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule.

After each game scored a run in the first inning, Gulf Coast Bank & Trust scored three runs in the second, seven runs in the third and four runs in the fourth inning.

Wes Carr had two hits and four RBI, Mason Hickman went 3 for 3 with three RBI, Kyle Charrier drove in two runs and scored three times and Peyton Gomez, Lucas Boudreaux, Asthton Calegan , Michael Scott and Tyler Fischer each contributed an RBI for the Skippers.

Cole Cressend pitched two innings to pick up the win.

Gavin Stein had doubled home a run for the lone Titans run. Logan Lomanaco started and took the loss.

Gulf Coast Bank & Trust (6-3) hosts K’s for Kids Wednesday while Lakeshore (5-7-1) hosts Peck’s Seafood Wednesday.

The John Curtis Christian-based River Ridge Patriots remained solidly in the playoff chase with an 11-3 victory over Pope John Paul II at Harahan Playground.

The Patriots scored in each of the first six innings in a solid victory.

Isaiah Spann belted a 3-run homer and finished with four RBI while Xavier Brown had a solo homer for River Ridge. Bryce Hebert had two hits and two RBI, Dylan Gilbert had two hits and scored two runs while Aiden Austin, Jason Curtis and Dagan Bruno each drove in a run. Juan Washington pitched four innings to pick up the win, allowing one run on three hits. Washington walked two and struck out five.

River Ridge (7-2-1) will host De La Salle-based Courcelle Law Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Harahan Playground. The Jaguars (0-8-2) will host Ponstein’s.

St. Charles Catholic-based Cretin Townsend Homes trailed Belle Chasse-based Terry’s Oysters heading to the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday.

The Comets then erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 6-2.

The Cardinals scored twice in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Tate Dickinson to break a scoreless tie before the rally by Cretin Townsend Homes.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brayden Bertucci tied it with a 2-run double and Brandon Kragle gave the Comets a 4-2 lead with a 2-run double. A fifth run scored on a double play grounder and courtesy runner Logan Barrios scored on a wild pitch to finish the big inning.

Owen Faucheux got the win in relief of Landree LeBlanc. Faucheux went 1.1 innings, allowing one hit with two walks and two strikeouts. LeBlanc pitched five good innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Jackson Monica got the save, getting the final two outs.

Alex Richardson took the loss in relief.

Cretin Townsend Homes (6-4-2) will conclude its regular season Wednesday at Archbishop Shaw-based Refuel.

Terry’s Oysters (2-8) will wrap up its league play Wednesday at home against Lutcher-based Cypress Physical Therapy.

Jesuit-based Retif Oil shutout De La Salle-based Courcelle Law 6-0 at John Ryan Stadium.

Beau Matulewski pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Brandon Thomas pitched the final two scoreless innings.

Retif Oil scored three runs in the bottom of the first and another run in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Blue Jays added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Luke Werling had a hit and three RBI, Connor Donnelly had a pair of RBI doubles and Joe Bosco had an RBI double. Jackson Peri took the loss for the Cavaliers.

Both teams return to action Wednesday. Retif Oil (4-6-1) will complete its Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League schedule at home against St. Thomas Aquinas.

Courcelle Law (4-6-1) plays its final game at Harahan Playground against the John Curtis Christian-based River Ridge Patriots.

Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s Food Store scored five runs in the bottom of the second which propelled the Tigers to an 8-4 win over Chalmette-based Gulf Coast Bank & Trust at Tiger Park.

Will Andrade had three hits, two RBI and scored two runs, Denny Trosclair had two hits and two RBI, while Luca Saltaformaggio and Brody Forstall each had two hits and an RBI for Ponstein’s. Aaron Guichard also drove in a run. Jake Gegenheimer was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Hayden Derbes pitched two scoreless innings to finish it for Ponstein’s.

Jimmy Corley started and took the loss for the Owls. Latrell Grant had two hits while Cole Armstrong, Talan Spitilera, Landon Hebert and Joseph Monaghan each drove in a run for Gulf Coast Bank.

Both teams conclude their regular seasons Wednesday. Ponstein’s (6-4-1) is at Pope John Paul II while Gulf Coast Bank (4-5-1) will host St. Augustine-based Chapter IV Restaurant.

Archbishop Shaw-based Refuel ripped St. Augustine-based Chapter IV Restaurant 10-0 in a game shortened to 4.1 innings at Winterscheidt Field.

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning on an error before taking a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Blair Mills and a steal of home by Ethan Lentz.

In the third inning, Nathan Billiot drilled a 2-run single while Dalton Davidson nailed a 2-run double to make it 8-0.

The Eagles completed the scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Hayden Percle scored on a passed ball and Cameron Bolden produced the final run on a sacrifice fly.

Steven Houin had two hits and scored a run while Billiot went the distance in a shutout win, allowing just one hit. Billiot walked three and struck out five.

Refuel (4-9) closes at home against Cretin Townsend Homes Wednesday while Chapter IV Restaurant (2-6) travels to Chalmette to take on Gulf Coast Bank.

Archbishop Rummel-based Malcolm Dienes was leading St. Thomas Aquinas 7-5 heading to the bottom of the fifth when lightning stopped the game, rendering it as a rainout. That left Malcolm Dienes (10-2) in a virtual tie with Cypress Physical Therapy (7-1-1) heading into the final scheduled day of the regular season. The Bulldogs play at Belle Chasse against Terry’s Oysters Wednesday while Malcolm Dienes has completed its regular season schedule.

The top four teams make the Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League playoffs with the semifinals set for Wednesday, July 5 at 4:30 and 7 p.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium and the final to be played Thursday, July 6 at 6 p.m. at John Ryan Stadium.
