SWAC releases 2021 spring football schedule

The Southwestern Athletic Football Conference is planning to play football this school year.

Rather than in the fall, which it already canceled, the SWAC now has a plan and schedule to compete in the spring. It is music to the ears of Grambling and Southern coaches, players and fans.

The season will consist of six conference games for each member.

The season opens for Grambling and Southern on Feb. 27 as the Tigers take on Prairie View A&M in the State Fair Classic in Dallas while the Jaguars travel to Alabama State.

Grambling has home games with Jackson State and Arkansas Pine Bluff on its schedule while Southern will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alcorn.

The Tigers and Jaguars are scheduled to meet in the 47th annual Bayou Classic on April 17 which is typically played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, though the location of the game remains uncertain.

The season will conclude with the SWAC championship game on May 1.
