Soccer: St. Paul’s, Holy Cross, Vandebilt Catholic, Episcopal retain top spots in rankings

Area Prep Soccer Report for Tuesday, Dec. 31

The same four teams occupy the top spots in this week’s Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings.

St. Paul’s remains the unanimous top team in Division I with all 10 first-place votes. The Wolves downed Jesuit 2-1 this past weekend in a battle of the two top powers of the last decade in Louisiana soccer.

Dutchtown (12-2) is second. The Griffins posted an impressive 4-0 win over a good Newman team Monday. Catholic of Baton Rouge is third with Jesuit fourth and Lafayette fifth. Brother Martin is No. 6.

Holy Cross (10-4-1) remains No. 1 in Division II. The Tigers received seven first-place votes. St. Thomas More (7-1-1) is second and received the other three first-place votes. Beau Chene is third with Bonnabel fourth and Ben Franklin fifth. East Jefferson is No. 7.

Vandebilt Catholic (12-2-6) is No. 1 in Division III. The Terriers received nine first-place votes. Parkview Baptist (11-2) is second with University High third. Loyola Prep is fourth with Lusher Charter fifth. North Vermilion is sixth and received the other first-place vote while New Orleans Military & Maritime is seventh.

Episcopal (8-3-2) is the unanimous choice for No. 1 in Division IV. Pope John Paul II (10-4-4) is second. Catholic of New Iberia is third with Newman fourth and Christ Episcopal fifth. Northlake Christian is sixth.
