St. Charles Catholic senior linebacker Kyle Cannon has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, Crescent City Sports, NASH ICON 106.1 FM and Friday Night Football Prep Player of the Week for week 14 of the prep football season, sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

A Southeastern Louisiana commit, Cannon recorded 16.5 tackles, including two sacks, two tackles for loss and a pass defended as the top-seeded Comets edged No. 4 seed University Lab 10-7 in overtime in the LHSAA Select Division III semifinals.

“Kyle has been consistently good for us for several years,” St. Charles Catholic coach Wayne Stein said. “He is a tackling machine who plays hard all the time, finds the football and makes plays. He is a large reason that we are where we are.”

Cannon will be honored at the next meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club on Dec. 12 at noon at The Cannery, honoring all prep players of the week, along with the team of the year, coach of the year and player of the year.

The second annual Baseball Bash, featuring LSU coach Jay Johnson, among all other local college and junior college head coaches, is set for Monday, Jan. 22 at noon at The Cannery.
