Southside hosts Lafayette in LHSAA Game of Week on busy Thursday night around state

While a host of games scheduled for Friday night have been moved to tonight due to expected bad weather around the state Friday, the LHSAA Game of the Week originates from Lafayette tonight where Southside hosts Lafayette in a District 3-5A contest at Teurlings Catholic. You can watch it live on Crescent City Sports and via the LHSAA Live App at 7 p.m.

The Sharks (4-3, 1-3) are a new program at a new school in suburban Lafayette.

Southside lost 66-43 to Sam Houston a week ago.

The Sharks average 33.4 points per game, led by junior quarterback Dillon Monette, who has thrown for 1,918 yards and 20 touchdowns and has a rushing touchdown. Junior Cedric McDonald has 258 yards rushing and six touchdowns, along with a touchdown reception while senior Rhett Pelloquin has 46 catches for 837 yards and eight touchdowns.

Defensively, junior linebacker Gentry Wallace is the leading tackler with 42.5 stops and a forces fumble.

The Mighty Lions (4-3, 1-3) lost to Barbe 40-19 a week ago.

Lafayette averages 31.2 points per game, led by quarterback Xan Saunier, who has thrown for 1,177 yards and six touchdowns and has a rushing touchdown. Running back Derezz Landry has rushed for 535 yards and 10 touchdowns while Logan Spears has 21 catches for 282 yards and a pair of scores.

Defensively, linebacker Oliver Craddock is the best player, leading the team with 49 tackles and two interceptions with a fumble recovery and he has scored a pair of touchdowns.

There are a total of 12 games in the metro New Orleans area and 49 games around Louisiana now scheduled for this evening.
