SLU wins SLC volleyball tourney

HAMMOND, La. – Coming off the program’s first Southland Conference Tournament Championship, the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team found out its NCAA National Championship Tournament path will start in Minneapolis against the #2 seed in the Austin Quarter and eighth overall seed, Minnesota, as the tournament bracket was revealed on Sunday night.

The Lady Lions (25-7) will continue its historic 2022 season which has already seen a 20-win season for the first time in more than two decades, the program’s first conference tournament win, first conference tournament title and the first national championship appearance.

“We’re obviously very proud to have earned our way to our first NCAA Tournament appearance,” said SLU head volleyball coach Jeremy White. “We look forward to the challenge of playing a high seed in Minnesota. Big Ten country is kind of the Mecca of volleyball in the country and we look forward to performing in front of a great crowd who knows and loves this sport.”

Southeastern’s path to a national championship starts on Friday against the 2-seed in the Austin Quarter, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who is the ninth-ranked team in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll, named the eighth- overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, and was picked as a host institution for the first and second round matches. The Golden Gophers finished third in the Big Ten this season with a 20-8 overall record and 15-5 record in conference.

Opening serve of SLU’s NCAA Tournament opening round match against #9 Minnesota is set for 7:00 P.M. in the Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis.
