Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, April 9

Hammond downed Springfield 5-3 at home in a non-district contest.

The Tornadoes scored twice in the bottom of the first and once in the second to make it 3-0. The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1 before Hammond got a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-1. Springfield scored twice in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-3 before the Tornadoes produced the final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Junior Madison Wells had three hits and an RBI. Zoe Foil, Natalie Harris and Savannah Smith each had a hit and an RBI while Kamryn Ciresi added an RBI for the Tornadoes.

Brianna Newman went the distance for the win, allowing three runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out three.

The win snapped a 10-game losing streak for Hammond (6-18). Hammond concludes its regular season at rival Franklinton today at 5:30 p.m. Springfield ends its regular season 7-18.
