Softball: Northshore, Mandeville, Haynes, Kenner Discovery with wins Thursday

Area Prep Softball Report for Friday, Feb. 25

Northshore traveled to Ponchatoula and emerged victorious in a convincing 12-3 contest in District 6-5A play Thursday.

Jenna Samuel struck out 12 to pickup the win and Samuel helped herself at the plate with a home run and a double. Ashlyn Shirah also homered for the Lady Panthers.

Northshore (3-3, 2-0) will host Fontainebleau Monday at 1 p.m. The Green Wave (3-3, 1-1) travels to Mandeville Monday at 11 a.m.

Mandeville won 11-1 over Slidell at home.

The Lady Skippers scored twice in the bottom of the first and broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the third to make it 7-0. Mandeville scored two more in the fourth and two runs in the sixth. The Lady Tigers got their only run in the top of the fifth inning.

Ashlyn Holiday led the offense for Mandeville (2-4, 1-1) with four hits and four RBI. Ashley Delormier and Grace Richard each had a pair of hits for the Lady Skippers.

Kara Henry went six innings, allowing just one run with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Cate Nettles and Eddrian Schenkel each had a pair of hits for Slidell.

The Lady Tigers (1-1, 0-1) will host Hammond Monday at 11 a.m.

Haynes Academy went on the road and shut out Chalmette 3-0 for its fourth straight win, handing the Lady Owls their first loss.

The game was scoreless into the top of the fifth inning when the Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs and added a run in the sixth inning.

Delaney Walker pitched a complete game four-hitter, walking two and striking out eight to improve to 3-1. Abby St. Cyr tripled and drove in a run while Melissa Lopera had a hit with two RBI.

Mikayla Dennis took the loss for Chalmette (3-1).

Haynes Academy (4-1) returns to action on March 8 at Belle Chasse. Chalmette will host Thomas Jefferson on March 3.

Kenner Discovery won at St. Michael 10-6.

The game was tied 1-1 when the Swamp Owls scored a run in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. St. Michael scored twice in the third to take a 3-2 lead before Kenner Discovery scored four runs in the top of the fourth to lead 6-3. The Warriors cut the deficit to 6-4 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Kenner Discovery make it 7-4 with a run in the top of the fifth but St. Michael countered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 7-6. The Swamp Owls got two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh to pull away for the win.

Eighth-grader Curry Miller had three hits and an RBI to lead Kenner Discovery while seventh-grader Egan Guidroz had two hits and three RBI. Freshman Brinley Miller had two hits and two RBI.

Seventh-grader Kodi Ricks picked up the win in relief, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in relief of senior Alyssa Duhe.

Olivia Jackson had two hits and three RBI for the Warriors. Lily Dumas went the distance and took the loss for St. Michael.

Kenner Discovery (2-3-1) will return to action on the road against Karr Friday at 4 p.m. St. Michael (0-3) travels to Central Private Monday at 4 p.m.
