Area Prep Softball Report for Friday, March 19

Lusher Charter opened District 11-4A play, handling Carver 13-1 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. The win was the fifth straight for the Lions.

In a totally dominant performance, sophomore Mea Landry pitched a one-hitter, recording all 15 outs by strikeout.

Lusher pounded out 14 hits with five players recording two-hit games, including Landry, junior Ella Guichet, freshman Farren Lamarsh, junior Amara Ujasiri and senior Kheila Smith.

The Lions put up crooked numbers in three consecutive innings, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning, three in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning. The Rams scored a run in bottom of the fifth inning but it was not enough to extend the contest.

Both teams return to district play next Tuesday. Lusher (7-1) will play at home against Ben Franklin at 4 p.m. while Carver (1-2) will host McMain at 4 p.m.

John Curtis Christian remained hot with a convincing 12-1 victory over Archbishop Chapelle in District 9-5A action Wednesday.

The win was the fifth straight for the Lady Patriots.

Katie Kempton drove in four runs, including a base-clearing triple for Curtis. Sierra Sacco was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Alyssa Ochoa had an RBI single, Kai Goodman had an RBI double and Danielle McCartney contributed an RBI single.

Goodman picked up the win, allowing just five hits while recording eight strikeouts.

Kayla Giardina took the loss for the Chimpunks while Lexy Smith had an RBI single to produce the only run for Chapelle.

John Curtis (13-2, 2-0) will host Dominican in district action next Tuesday at 5 p.m. Archbishop Chapelle (13-7, 1-2) lost its fourth straight game. The Chipmunks travel to Academy of Our Lady Saturday at 11 a.m.
