Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, Feb. 19

Haynes Academy had a banner year in 2022 in softball, reaching the Division II state championship game.

The Yellow Jackets are back and ready for another excellent season.

Haynes defeated Walker 8-6 in the Ponchatoula Tournament Saturday.

Walker took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the second to make it 3-1. Walker answered with a run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-2.

Haynes (1-1) increased the lead to 4-2 with a run in the top of the third before Walker cut the deficit to 4-3 with a run in the fourth inning. Haynes scored twice in the fifth and added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make it 8-3. Walker rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.

Hailey Peterson picked up the victory, pitching a complete game, allowing eight hits while striking out five.

Aubrie Claverie and Caroline Longo each had two hits with each hitting a home run for Haynes while Peterson helped herself with two hits.

Alexa Villar had two hits for the Wildcats.

Haynes committed four errors while Walker had three errors.
