Softball: Haynes downs Riverside to continue win streak; Belle Chasse wins in final inning

Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, March 9

It has been a very good start to the season for Haynes Academy.

The promise of even better things awaits the Yellow Jackets.

Haynes made it six straight wins with a 16-5 victory over Riverside Academy at Reserve.

It marked the fifth time this season that Haynes has scored 10 or more runs.

The Yellow Jackets have lost only at Walker.

Haynes (7-1) returns to action Wednesday, hosting Destrehan at 5 p.m. while the Rebels (3-3) will travel to Metairie to face Ecole Classique Thursday at 4 p.m.

At Belle Chasse, the Cardinals snapped a 3-game losing streak, staging a dramatic rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Northshore 8-7.

Trailing 7-4, Belle Chasse scored four runs in the final frame to win it.

Leila Heller tied the game with a 2-run single before Kassidi Barthelemy drove in the winning run.

Belle Chasse (4-4) will host Karr today at 4 p.m. in the District 10-4A opener for both teams while the Panthers (9-3) travel to Hammond today at 3:30 p.m. in District 6-5A play.
