Softball: Haynes bounces Franklinton

Area Prep Softball Report for Saturday, March 16

With rain all around, the area prep softball schedule was extremely limited Friday with just a few games getting played.

Haynes Academy handled Franklinton 12-1 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the first inning and four times in the second inning to lead 6-0. Haynes added three runs in the fourth to make it 9-0. The Demons got their run in the top of the fifth but the Yellow Jackets ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hailey Peterson picked up the win, going the distance, allowing two hits with nine strikeouts.

S. Branch took the loss for the Demons.

Peterson provided the punch on offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI while Ava Palumbo had three hits, including a triple and an RBI. Ella Lewis had an RBI double. S. Burris had a double and an RBI for the Demons.

Haynes (9-4) is back in action today vs. Mobile Christian at 1:30 p.m. and against St. Thomas Aquinas at 6:30 p.m. at the Jay Artigues sports complex in Hammond.

Franklinton (8-3) also plays twice today in Hammond, taking on Northshore at 1:30 p.m. and Ponchatoula at 6:30 p.m.
