Softball: Hahnville wins extra inning thriller over Chapelle; Kenner Discovery outslugs St. Martin’s

Area Prep Softball Report for Wednesday, April 13

In a simply outstanding game, Hahnville outlasted Archbishop Chapelle 7-4 in 10 innings Tuesday at Butch Duhe Playground.

Laney Waguespack broke a 4-4 tie with a base-clearing double in the 10th inning.

Waguespack went the distance on the mound to pick up the win, allowing just one earned run on 10 hits. Waguespack walked just one and struck out 11.

Bertrand belted a pair of home runs for the Lady Tigers, driving in four runs while Roussel had three hits and scored twice.

Kayla Giardina took the loss for Chapelle, allowing seven runs on eight hits. Giardina walked two and struck out 15. Giardina contributed three hits to the Chapelle offense, Kelsie Schmidt had two hits and two RBI while Delaney Trosclair homered.

Hahnville (21-10), 12th in the most recent LHSAA Class 5A power rankings, concluded its regular season. Archbishop Chapelle (18-13), fourth in the Division I power rankings, will travel to Vandebilt Catholic today at 5 p.m. to wrap up its regular season.

In non-district play, Kenner Discovery handled St. Martin’s Episcopal 17-7.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first before the Swamp Owls tied it with a run in the top of the second. Kenner Discovery took a 5-1 lead with four runs in the top of the third but St. Martin’s responded with six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-5 lead.

The Swamp Owls then took over, scoring the last 12 runs of the game, including a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and finished it off with seven runs in the seventh inning.

Senior Ella Guidroz had three hits and two RBI while junior Ava Diaz had two hits and four RBI. Sophomore Emily West had three hits and two RBI. Sophomore Emmi Guidroz added two hits and an RBI and junior Camryn Johnson had a hit and two RBI. Senior Alyssa Duhe had four hits and an RBI.

Diaz pitched six innings to pick up the win.

Kenner Discovery (16-14-1) will conclude its regular season today against Lusher Charter at 4 p.m.

St. Martin’s (11-8) concluded its regular season.
