Softball: De La Salle, Ponchatoula, Riverside with wins Saturday

Area Prep Softball Report for Sunday, April 2

De La Salle downed Pope John Paul II 9-4.

The Jaguars jumped on the Cavaliers early with three runs in the top of the first but De La Salle scored twice in the third inning and tied it with a run in the fourth inning at 3-3. The Cavaliers scored three runs in the fifth to make it 6-3. Pope Joh Paul II cut the deficit to 6-4 with a run in the top of the sixth but De La Salle put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Gabie Peri went the distance to get the win, allowing two runs on eight hits. Peri walked one and struck out two.

Shortstop Taylar Allen was the hitting star with three hits and four RBI while Otti DeJean had a hit and two RBI. Mariah Sanchez and Tatyana Cole each had two hits and Rhion Williams had a hit and an RBI and drew a pair of walks.

Ella Babin took the loss in relief for the Jaguars.

Babin had a 2-run homer to pace the Pope John Paul attack.

De La Salle (13-5) will host Patrick Taylor at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pope John Paul II (17-5) will play at Archbishop Hannan Monday at 5 p.m.

Ponchatoula won at Northlake Christian 12-7.

Each team scored twice in the first inning before the Green Wave added a run in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Wolverines tied it in the bottom of the third before Ponchatoula exploded for four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take an 11-3 lead.

Northlake Christian got a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 11-4 and added three in the sixth to make it 11-7. Ponchatoula got an insurance run in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Junior Brilynn Singh provided the offensive punch with four hits and four RBI. Lanie Polk had a hit and two RBI. Christina Curtis had two hits while Sydni Stanga and Brianna Chavarria each had a hit and an RBI.

Senior Grace Schwaibold picked up the win.

Ponchatoula (19-10) will play at Denham Springs Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Northlake Christian (9-12) will entertain Central Private Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Riverside Academy handled Vandebilt Catholic 15-4 in tournament play at St. Thomas More. It was the third straight win for the Rebels.

The Rebels scored twice in the top of the first and once in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Terriers got one back in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1.

Riverside broke it open with a run in the third and three in the fourth and it was 7-1. Vandebilt Catholic put it away with a run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.

Camryn Loving put on a show with three hits, including a pair of home runs and drove in six runs. Corrin Cashio had two hits and three RBI, Emily Vicknair drove in a pair of runs and Ava Fernandez had two doubles and an RBI.

Alainah Felton, Anna Claire Mistretta and Chloe St. Pierre each had two hits and two RBI.

Amber Palermo went the distance to get the win, allowing two earned runs on 11 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Riverside (11-8) will host Houma Christian Monday at 5 p.m.

Vandebilt Catholic (23-7) will play at H.L. Bourgeois Monday at 4 p.m.
