Softball: De La Salle handles H.L. Bourgeois

Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, Feb. 28

De La Salle was impressive in a 14-2 victory over H.L. Bourgeois Monday in a game shortened to four and a half innings by the mercy rule.

The Cavaliers scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning before breaking it open with six runs in the third inning to make it 11-0. The Braves got two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 11-2 before De La Salle scored three in the bottom of the fourth and held H.L. Bourgeois scoreless in the fifth inning to end it.

Rhion Williams was the star at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a home run, double, single and three RBI while Taylar Allen homered, singled and drove in a pair of runs. Heidi Scully had a hit and drove in three runs while Olivia Ianetta, Otti DeJean and Gabie Peri each had two hits and an RBI as part of a 14-hit attack. Peri picked up the win, going the distance while allowing two runs on four hits. Peri walked three and struck out five.

De La Salle (2-1) returns to action on the West Bank against Thomas Jefferson Thursday at 5 p.m.

H.L. Bourgeois (0-7) remains in search of its first win when the Braves play at Ellender today at 4 p.m.
